Football Italia

Newest Review: ... match broadcast on a Sunday is well presented. The commentaries of Clive Tyldesley or Peter Brackley are excellent and avoid the idiosyncratic nonsense which John Motson still thinks of as a commentary. The C4 commentators realise that viewers have switched to watch the football not listen to someone chuckle inanely and provide bland wallpaper comments. Football Italia and Gazzetta succeed for 2 reasons, firstly the chosen subject of Italian football is infinitely more exotic and interesting than the Premiership and secondly the production and presentation is far superior to that of ITV and BBC.... more

Premium Review Football Italia: Italian Football at its best! (310 words)
by - written on 28/05/08 (Useful, 99 readings)
Rating:

C4's football programme concentrates on the action from the Italian Serie A which is the equivalent of England's Premier league. A full match is broadcast live each Sunday but even better is the magazine style programme called Gazzetta which is broadcast on a Saturday morning. The Gazzetta programme is presented by James Richardson who is easily the best presenter of a football related programme on British TV. Richardson is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Italian football but in a more mature way than the patronising way BBC and to a lesser extent ITV presenters are. Fluent in Italian, Richardson has football interviews with players and managers which ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Death (190 words)

For over a decade now, James Richardson and the Football Italia team have provided us with top class coverage of one of footballs premier leagues. Serie A has been great. The round up shows on Saturday mornings and the late night extended highlights show have been excellent. It was also good when they used to show live games on Sunday afternoons. Well it seems as if the death of football Italia was inevitable after the dyer financial situations of many club teams in Italy. Channel 4 have stated that they are not renewing their contract with Football Italia because the people in Italy asked for too much money. It was alo rumoured that Sky Sports approached the TV ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Football Italia: Soccer, sun and sex... (622 words)

(No sex, but I want you to read this) Channel 4 and SPORT - it used to be a bit of a joke with things like that Indian version of British Bulldogs, but over the last five years or so, the channel has rightly been given a lot of credit for the improvements it has managed to make and some of the scoops they have had and the undisputed jewel in 4's sports crown is Sunday's Football Italia selection. The Serie A, Italy's equivalent to our own premiership, is one of the most exciting league tournaments in the world and for many years the 'money no object' approach of the richer Italian clubs has led to the world's greatest ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review World of their own (251 words)

Channel 4's fantastic coverage of Serie A always has me glued to the screen at about midday on a Sunday. The Italian Serie A is by far the best league in the world and Channel 4 do a tremendous job covering these games. The reason that the Italian league is so superior to the English Premiership is that there is never a boring game. You hardly ever see a 0-0 draw in Serie A but in the Premiership it is a common result. Also, the way that the Italian's approach games and the way that they look so patient and laid back when in posession always keeps me occupied. The Italian's make the ball do the work, they pass short, they change ...  Read the complete review

OK, here I go again, I am a massive football fan and I watch as much football on the TV as I can, as you may know from my pervious opinions, I dont have Sky or Digital TV and I do enjoy watching football form other leauges. The Italian leauge, as Serie A has some of the most talented footballers in the world on show and I for one like to see how the other leauges in the world play thier football and Football Italia helps he to do that, I watch Football Italia and then Football Focus and then On the ball, so you could say I get a good look at the differences and similarities between the English and Italian leauges. I am still of the belief that the Engliah Premiership is ...  Read the complete review
