Advantages: Crazy storylines

Disadvantages: Got a bit too silly in the end

Footballers wives was an ITV show that started in 2002 and ended in 2006 that ran for 5 series. It is based on the lives and families of the players of fictional football club, Earls Park F.C.

Footballers Wives was trashy, cheap, sexy and exciting. The series' werent very long, normally consisting of either 8 or 9 episodes. The show really isnt focused on football at all though, its more about sex and scandal. Some of the storylines have been really outragous and have included the likes of murder, voodoo, affairs, babies born with deformaties, and babies being brought up by other people. Footballers Wives is just crazy. If i went through the actual plot of this show, this review would be thounsands of words.

Footballers Wives was made by the same people as Bad Girls. One of the characters, Tanya Turner make an appearance in Bad Girls after getting sent to prison in Footballers Wives. I reallly loved this concept and Tanya was one of my favourite characters so it was good to see her legacy carried on even after she left the show.

One of the stars of the show was Gary Lucy who had previously been in Hollyoaks and was well known for his late night rape episode. I think he was a fantastic choice for a main role because he had showed that he could do any kind of story line, no matter how serious or crazy it was.

The show also had a couple of guest stars like Graham Norton who appeared in the Comic Relief mini episode. Other celebrities have made appearances as themselves like Jordan, Callum Best, Peter Andre and Sol Campbell.

Footballer's Wives has been shown all over the world and some countries also tried making their own version. There was supposed to be an American remake of the show, that focused on American Football but was cancelled due to budget reasons. James Van der Beek and Gabrielle Union were going to be part of the cast.

The show finally got cancelled in its 5th season because of low ratings as it failed to compete with other shows on at the same time. As much as i loved this show, im glad it finally came to an end because it got really stupid, if it was even possible to get more stupid than it was to begin with.

This was certainly a show that you either loved or hated. I loved the fact that everyone was beautiful and thought they could throw their money around and get away with what ever they wanted just because they were rich. Although i loved the characters of the wives and girlfriends, i doubt the real people would have been impressed. Im sure they have some crazy things going on in their lives but i cant imagine them being as crazy as the show.

After writing this review, im finding myself wanting to watch it all over again. Time too add the DVDs to my Amazon wish list!!
