Advantages: Quite Interesting, Relaxing TV

Disadvantages: Pretty Average

A couple of friends mentioned this program to me recently so I thought I'd give it a go. I was quite excited by the idea of it but overall thought it was a pretty average reality tv show and thought it probably could have been done better. It is quite easy-watching and probably fairly addictive though, so I'm sure I will be watching it again, including the celebrity version which is apparently on next week!

********** The Concept **********

Everyone seems to be describing it as the wedding version of Come Dine With Me. Basically 4 women all go to each others weddings after meeting up and discussing their plans beforehand. At the end of each wedding the girls score the bride on four different areas - wedding dress, food, venue, and overall presentation (I don't think I've missed one...). The bride who gets the highest overall score wins a honeymoon. What I don't quite understand is how that can work, since they have to wait until after all the weddings are over and surely they would have booked one already in case they didn't win?? Oh well, maybe the winner just gets two honeymoons, I wouldn't complain about that anyway :-)

********** The Verdict **********

In general I do quite like reality tv like this, as cheesy as it often is. I'm a big fan of Come Dine With Me (although I've watched it so much I'm a bit bored of it now!) and I also find Wife Swap really funny (is it supposed to be a comedy?!?). I like finding out about different kinds of people and seeing how they live, especially as although we all may think we have very mixed friends, often we do mingle in circles that are actually a lot more similar than we think. For that reason I quite like an insight into other people's ways of living.

It was interesting watching how other people put their weddings together and what was important to them, even though I didn't personally like most of what they did (but of course it was right for them which is what counts). It was very relaxing viewing and it was also quite funny watching what the girls said about each other's weddings.

On the negative side, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would but I can't totally put my finger on why. For a start they could probably do with a better commentator - the commentator for Come Dine With Me, for example, is hilarious and you remember him. Having said that, he is exceptionally good so being as good as him would be aiming quite high.

I guess that how much you enjoy the show would very much depend on what happens at the weddings. The weddings on the show I watched very fairly straightforward and pretty uneventful apart from the groom stripping naked at one of the weddings, which was pretty gross. It also felt a bit rushed going through 4 brides in an hour. As a side note I also think I would hate to be part of this program as you'd feel such pressure on your wedding day, knowing that people were there specifically to mark you.

********** When and Where **********

9pm on Mondays on the Living channel.

********* Conclusion **********

A relaxing reality show which is quite interesting but nothing to write home about.

Summary: A relaxing reality tv show but not fantastic
