Advantages: some guests

Disadvantages: the other guests

WHAT IS IT:
Jonathan Ross' BBC 1 talk show sees him entertaining the nation with three guests and one music act in a one hour long show. House band 'Four Poofs and a Piano' provide the entrance music for each guest, and guests vary but are generally from the world of TV, film or music.

HOW TO WATCH:
Friday nights on the BBC or all week long on the BBC Iplayer www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer

THE GOOD:
The best thing about the show is Jonathan himself, whose risque and oddball sense of humour has me in stitches. At the start of the show, and between guests, he gives perhaps three or four minutes of comedy, and it really is very funny.

The guests, at their best, are phenomenal, and often superstars who refuse most other shows (Tom Cruise was brilliant last week). Ross' disarming style often cuts through the boring outer layers of the guests and lightens them up with fun and laughter.

THE BAD:
Since Jonathan's three month suspension for the Sachsgate affair, he's had to tone it down a bit, and the blinkering has left him hampered; to put it bluntly - he's not as funny as he was before.

The quality of guests varies greatly, and there are many weeks when they are so poor I don't even watch - William Shatner headlined this week (what's that all about). It's almost as if they can't get enough guests for a season, so make do with any old crap at times.

IN CONCLUSION:
Since the BBCs slapping his wrists, Ross is unable to be his usual risque and funny self, and is forced to dumb down. As this is a late night show, there's just no need, and its result is a luke warm hour of average TV with occasional moments of greatness.

Summary: still worth watching

Euuuugh lol Jonathan Ross really irritates me big-time - it's not his material, just him.

The Ross thing was all very silly. Its like going back to the 70s seeing him flagelated like this over morals.
