Advantages: very funny, attachable charricters, role model charricters - Phoebe i love you

Disadvantages: a bit far fetched from life

Well I thought I should contribute to one of the hundreds of friend’s opinions and write my own. I myself am a huge fan of the program and will continue to watch new episodes as they come out.

If you have never seen an episode of friends I would like to know how you have managed it? But just for you here is a little insight.

Friends is set in New York and based around a group of six friends. Who are these people well there is:

Chandler Bing
Chandler is the group clown. He is constantly making jokes and making everyone laugh. He has a few relationships through the series but at the end of series six he gets married to Monica, another member of the friends group. He went to university with Ross, Monica’s brother. His mother is a famous raunchy novelist and his father is a cross dressing performer in Vegas. He used to live in an apartment with Joey, another member of the friends crew and now lives with his wife Monica
Interesting things to do with Chandler is that fact that he has/had three nipples (he has it removed in one episode),
Mathew Perry who is the star who plays Chandler also a few films, including ‘The Whole Nine Yards’ staring Bruce Willis.

Monica Gellar/Bing.
Monica is a chef and thus likes to cook. She used to be fat as a child but has lost weight and is very conscious about it. She has a brother, Ross, who is one of the friend’s crew. She went to high school with Rachel and also shared her flat with her for a while. She has a few long-term relationships including one with her dad’s friend Richard, however she ends up sleeping with Chandler when she was drunk and getting in a relationship with him. Now they are happily married. Monica really wants children and has a thing of always getting what she wants.
Interesting things to do with Monica is the fact that she is very tidy, everything has its own place and has to be kept there, this can get very annoying.
C
ourtney Cox who is the star who plays Monica has also had a few other moments of fame. She is in the three scream films (where she met her husband) and also was the first person to ever say the word tampon in a tampax advert in 1990.

Ross Gellar
Ross is Monica’s older brother. He went to university with Chandler and dated Monica’s best friend from school, Rachel, who he married. Ross how ever has been married and divorced three times. His first wife, Carol, was a lesbian, his second wife Emily was too possessive and his third wife Rachel was drunk at the time. Ross is also the only father on the program, with his son Ben who’s mother is Carol. Ross used to work at a university as a palaeontologist (Dinosaur man for the likes of you and me) and now is a proffesor at a university.
Interesting things to do with Ross is how he managed to be so boring. He is too intelligent for his own good although we all love him really. He also used to have a pet monkey called Marcel.
Ross is played by David Swimmer who is the star of films like ‘Breast Men’ and ‘Six Days and Seven Nights’ with Harrison Ford.

Rachel Green
Rachel is Monica’s best friend at high school and old roommate. She is a fashion designer for Ralph Loren although she used to work at a coffee shop. In a moment of madness Rachel gets married to Ross her old boyfriend but they soon get divorced. At the end of the series six there is an indication that she is pregnant, so Rachel may soon be a single mum. She has a few long lasting relationships with the likes of Bruce Willis.
Interesting things about Rachel are that she has a tattoo; she used to be spoilt rotten by her rich doctor father. Rachel was almost married to a man called Barry before but she ran away from the wedding reception.
Jennifer Anniston who stars, as Rachel is also known for her haircut and appearance in films such as ‘Picture Perfect’ and ‘
The Object of My Affection’.

Phoebe Buffay
Phoebe is the group hippy. She is wild and very exocentric, you never can tell what she is going to do next. Her exciting life consists of her mother killing herself, being homeless on the streets and being married to an ice skater. She is a massagers although she seems to of had many jobs. Phoebe is one of the characters who have few relationships and I don’t see why. She is in fact my role model and people say I am as ditsy as her.
Interesting facts about Phoebe are that she loves to play her guitar and write songs even if she isn’t very good, she is a vegetarian and she is a surrogate mum to her brothers triplets.

An example of Phoebe’s songs:

Stop me if you’ve heard it
My hair is soapy and my hair is wet
And tigren spelt backwards is nergit.

What talent.

Lisa Kudrow plays Phoebe and has had the most successful career outside of friends out of the whole cast. She is the star of films like ‘Romy and Michelle’s high school reunion’ and ‘Analyse this’ with Robert De Nero and Billy Crystal.

Joey Tribiani
Joey is an actor and star in a TV series called ‘Days of Our Life’. He has had a very hectic career though and has stared in some awful productions as well though. He is a bit dumb out of the crowd and has a huge ego. He is in fact the group slut. He is meant to be Italian and comes from a huge family with 13 sisters I believe.
Interesting facts about Joey, he loves to eat and he married Monica and Chandler.
Joey is played by Matt Le Blanc who is the star of films like ‘Lost in Space’.

So that’s the main cast. There are of course a few other minor characters I will whiz through for you…

Gunter
He works in the coffee shop and has a huge crush on Rachel

Tad
Rachel
’s ex boyfriend and whom her baby is by.

Carol
Ross’s ex-wife, lesbian and mother to Ross’s son Ben

Richard
Monica’s old lover who broke up with her because he didn’t want to have children.

Emily
Ross’s second wife who never saw after the wedding ceremony when he said I take thee Rachel not Emily. Opps.

There are many more but if I carry on you will be reading my opinion forever.

There are six series at present that have been shown in England although I believe an 8th is being recorded. Through these series there have been over 100 episodes. For each episode the six main characters earn $100,000 meaning that yes they are all millionaires. The episodes are normally shown on sky one but now E4 and then on channel four. The theme tune I’ll be there for you is sang by the Rembrandts (no I hadn’t heard of them ever before either).

I started watching in series four although I had seen episodes before and not been impressed. If you do decide to watch an episode then I would recommend you start at the beginning and not half way through an episode as it does help. They idea of the program is to be comical so don’t get swept up too much in the story line.

There have been many famous stars in the program including recently Bruce Willis, Elle McPherson and Julia Roberts.

So watch enjoy and laugh.
