I am a Friends fan. I love Friends. But there comes a time where every good show has to realise it has run out of good storylines, run out of jokes, and run out of time. Now before all the Friends fanatics try to hunt me down and kill me I will explain what I mean.

The whole point of the show was that it was a comedy about a group of friends. A comedy. As the series have gone it has tried to turn itself into a drama, focusing more and more on the relationships between the characters and less and less on the jokes and the script.

Don?t get me wrong, it is still well written, it still has its moments, and I still will watch it if I have half an hour to kill, but it isn?t funny.

There were episodes in the earlier series when I would laugh out loud several times, but that hasn?t happened in a long time. I can even put my finger on exactly when its sorry demise began. When Ross and Rachel were going out it was still funny. Before they were going out it was very funny. But after the break up and the series when Ross nearly married Emily it began to decline, and more recently, with Monica and Chandler together, it has totally fallen apart in my opinion.

The situations they get themselves into are not funny anymore, all the writers seem to care about is the love lives of the group, but in a much more serious way than before. When they were all dating and having disasters there was a lot more scope for comedy. Obviously the characters have to mature and get into serious relationships but that doesn?t mean the show has to get serious.

About 4 series of Friends was enough. Then it could have ended when people wanted more, making it a great show. Fawlty towers only had 1 series, only a handful of episodes, but each was a classic. The brilliance of Friends has been diluted by the sheer mass of episodes made and I just don?t care about it any more.

Enough is enough, and enough was about 2 series ago.

Although I am a Friends addict, I have to agree that it lost its appeal during Series 6 and 7 but I really do think it has got its magic back again in the latest series being shown on E4.

As for the review, if you had included more info about the background of the show and the times and channels it iss shown then I would have rated it VU. If you decide to add more then please let me know and I will re-rate. Cheers :-)

I think it lost its appeal for me when people around me started quoting endlessly from it, acting out the roles and generally making me want to shake them warmly by the throat...
