This series is presently running at 8.30 on Sky1 on Sunday nights and has been seen on Channel 4.Most reviews point out it is the latest creation by Matt Groening,he of 'The Simpsons'fame -
and who am I to be any different!.The comparisons are inevitable as the same animation has been used although the characters are pink rather than yellow.

The pilot episode introduced the principal character Fry a loser of a pizza delivery boy who fell into a cryogenic chamber on 1999 and awoke 1000 years later.Barely fazed by the experince Fry quickly adapted to life in the future and to his new position of delivery boy, albeit on a space ship.

Using future technology Fry tracks down his only decendant an ancient uncle who, luckily for the writers, is a mad scientist with a delivery business.Fry's co-workers include Leela a cyclops voiced by Katey Segal- Mrs Al Bundy herself.Leela has trouble finding compatable men seeing as she's the last of her race.

Fry's best friend is Bender the robot who is also the star of the show.Bender is selfish, hard drinking,a thief and gambler - and these are his better qualities. He sings country and western when near magnets and dreams of crushing humanity. His catchphrase is "Kiss my shiney metal ass" and his hero is Calculon a robot soap star.

Other regular characters include Hermes the brains behind Planet Express delivery and Worlds'champion limbo dancer and Dr Zoidberg an alien lobster man doctor who has trouble telling boys/girls/robots appart.

The plots usually involve dangerous deliveries or alien attacks on New New York.Arrogent spaceman Zap Brannigan regularly appears to save the day and often the show.Straight from the Captain Kirk model he's usually after alien babes.

20/21st history is often mentioned and sneered at.In an early episode a large garbage ball which was threatening Earth was found to consist of AOL discs and Bart Simpson dolls!.Star
s of today such as Pamela Anderson and Pauley Shore regularly appear as their own preserved heads in jars.

This show was always going to be good as it stuck closely to theSimpson's template. The laughs ar'nt as frequent as the Simpsons and often the plots are too predictable-guess what happened on board the Starship Titanic?!.It is however jarred head above most shows and well worth a look.A poor man'sSimpsons but hey he's not complaining!.

I only wish that Futurama was on as often as the Simpsons - then my life would be complete! :P

Great op. I love futurama (and the simpsons). One thing though - the mad scientist is Fry's great- (or great-great-) nephew not uncle ;)

I loved the idea of the suicide booth, which only cost 25 cents per use and the fish which blinks its three eyes in a kind of Mexican Wave.
