Advantages: Great storylines, jokes and characters

Disadvantages: Not on for long enough!

'Futurama', created by Matt Groening, who incidentally, also created the Simpsons, is one of the funniest animations I have ever seen.

I wonder if this is aimed at the older generation, as the jokes and witty comments made by the characters are a bit difficult to grasp by the younger members of our families.

Fry, a 25 yr old red-headed pizza delivery boy, is transported 1000 years to the year 3000 by a time capsule which he accidentally stumbles into when delivering a pizza one cold and mirky evening.

He is transported to a whole new world which is very high tech full of flying objects and strange ways of transporting yourself from A to B. He befriends an alcoholic robot called Bender in a queue waiting to enter the suicide booth. (Fry thinks this is a telephone box). And since that day, they have had a rocky friendship, but the friendship has always grown stronger throughout the series.

He meets Leela, a one-eyed blue haired alien who is the sensible and strong headed one of the whole group. Fry is very scatty, and, in ways, is very similar to Homer Simpson with his bad manners and silly antics. Leela is the one who sorts things out and keeps everything and everyone together.

Also in the series meet Zapp, he is the captain of a spaceship. He is extremely pompous and arrogant, and thinks he is God's gift to women, and is always after Leela. She always frowns at him in disgust! I like Zapp. He's a funny character with enough charm and one-liners that will have anything female drewling over him! Kit, Zapp's First Officer is an alien. You never see him smiling, and is forever depressed. But, can you blame him working for Zapp? He says little and does little, but prominent looking he is which his pointed head and nose.

Dr Zoldberg is a crab of sorts on legs. He is the staff doctor, but who would want a doctor with claws to inspect your body? This, surely, would make you iller than
what you already were? Professor Farnsworth is Fry's great-great-great-great-great (blah, blah, blah) nephew. Aged at 149 yrs old, he looks and acts his age with his rambling on about nothing much at all most of the time! He is the Scientist.

Well, the above named are just a few of the many loved characters in the show we call 'Futurama'. Is this the future to be? It could well be, and if it is, God help us!! But, as we are now in the 21st Century, lets just enjoy what could well be the future, and have a laugh at the jokes and remarks made in this cartoon. I love this cartoon. I love the characters, especially Zapp, and I love Matt Groening for inventing it! Is there anything I don't like about it? Well, in one simple word - No. Maybe one little thing. It's not on for long enough!!

I think the two other ops say it all really - it's better than I first thought, but not as good as we hoped when we first saw it. Groening spoiled us with Homer's gang - well written op, though.
