Advantages: Garfield
Disadvantages: Some may find Orsons Farm a bit boring
The Garfield. My favourite species of cat. Obnoxious, orange, fat, hunger-mad, powercrazy, racist towards dogs...and somehow comes off as the most loveable furball on tv. I find this cartoon a bit different from other cartoons. Garfield uses sophisticated vocabulary for the more mature fans, and has the endless cartoon slpstick for the kiddies. Most cartoons are jam-packed with pretty drawn cartoons and flashing lighs and action. Most are made for kids. Kids only. They hold no value of wit at all. No storyline, just loads of people getting repeatedly hurt. Garfield is different. It has a good stable storyline and you know, that Garfield haste complete awareness of the fact he's on a cartoon show. The cartoon about this cat and his intolerable owne Jon, and his life long doggie pal Odie ( I use pal in its loosest term, as Garfield does give Odie a good kick off the table once in a while) It is split up into two parts. One part is a story about the Star Garfield and a good story about what goes on in his wierd little world. The second part is about a farm, headed by a moral minded pig called Orson. I'll give you a quick character guide of all the main characters in this cartoon... THE GARFIELD HALF Garfield As I have said, obnoxious, selfish cat who we all love. He is md on food, and is usually seen eating or sleeping, his two favourite hobbies, and he does tend to watch TV too, with the long running gag of Garfield watching the most stupid cable channels known to humanity. " Answer a Question, Win a Cookie " and others. Garfield never really seems to lose his cool, only on rare occasions do we see Garfield lose it. He is remarkably intelligent, and doesn't give a damn about anything. He doesn't care about people's feelings either. Garfield is aware that he is in a tv show and his constantly making little comments to the viewers right in the middle of a show. A
nd will even note the long running gags that appear in the show, such as the Kloffman diamond showing up pretty much everywhere. Jon Jon is the long-suffering owner of Garfield. He is quite stupid, as Garfield tends to point out, and dotes upon his cat, beliving that Garfield loves him dearly, and not just in it for the free food. Jon is the worst cook known to man, and not at all talented in front of the ladies. In fact, the last time he had a date, the dinosaurs were walking around outside. Jon is a cartoonist who has a typical normal family who live in a faraway American farm. Odie Odie is the dog. Now, Odie doesn't talk. He's just...well...a dog! Odie does seem brain-dead on the whole, but has a warm heart, and loves Garfield, as he does tend to slather on him alot. Odie does seem to get a large part to play in the storylines as well. Nermal Nermal is an occasional visitor on the Garfield household. Nermal is the cute kitten who is Garfield's cousin. Garfield hates him, and tends to send him to a lot of third world countries. THE ORSON'S FARM HALF Orson Orson is a kind loving pig who has a big imagination that we get to see whenever he gives into a book of his. He is smart, and always sorts out the problems on the farm and makes morals to the story. Usually, he sings, in a typical cheesy fashion Wade Wade is a duck who is so scared that he tends to go around with a rubber ring around him. If you look cosely at the rubber ring, you'll see a little duck head in the middle that replicates all of Wade's facial expressions. Wade is an over exaggerated worrier. He is scared, of everything. Roy Roy is a wise cracking Rooster, who gets good lines. There are also, the two sheep twins, who spend hlf their life arguing. The boy brother sheep is an obvious hippy, and the other sheep is a girl who is bossy. And thn the
are the cheeky chick and the walking egg. ( Yes, there is a walking egg) Overall, I find the show quite fun. The storylines are good, and there is an element of nonsense which is always fun. It isn't addictive, which is good. You can watch it, and not have the need to watch another. It is easy to watch, and a different concept to most cartoons. It is based on the comic strip series by the genius that is Jim Davis.

- 05/11/03 I didn't even know there was a TV series of Garfield! I very much like Garfield in cartoon strips in books and newspapers, but am not sure how it would translate onto telly. Sue |
