Ghost Whisperer is a brilliant supernatural US series about Melinda Gordon (Jennifer Love Hewitt) who has just recently got married to her wonderful fire-fighter fiancé, Jim (David Conrad), and has moved to a lovely new house to start their lives as newlyweds together. Although life sounds perfect, Melinda has a gift that puts a lot of pressure on her life and relationship - she is able to see ghosts, or dead people. These ghosts are still earthbound and are unable to cross over to the other side for various reasons such as wanting to say goodbye to a loved one, revenge or unfinished business. Melinda sees these ghosts or they come to her for help in getting them to cross over into the light. Melinda often has to reach out to the dead person's family or friends to help them come to terms with their loss and a strange woman coming into your house trying to tell you that she can see and speak to someone you knew and loved who is now dead, is obviously going to be a bit unbelievable. Melinda therefore has lots of struggles to get these people to believe her so that the ghost can eventually pass over and be at rest.

Melinda inherited this gift from her grandmother when she was only a little girl and she has had to come to terms with the fact that she is different. She rarely sees her mother because of her gift but her husband is the rock that she depends on, although Jim sometimes finds it hard as she can become so involved in these ghosts and their family's lives.

There is a general storyline to follow revolving around Melinda and Jim's lives but each episode has a different main story and a different ghost so you don't really need to have watched it from the beginning and you will understand what's going on in each new episode.

Jennifer Love Hewitt is a brilliant actress and I'm sure any guy will love the show purely because she stars in it (as my husband does!). The way she acts is just so to perfection and feminine. Even though she has this amazing gift that should make her strong and brave, she is still always scared of some of the more dangerous ghosts and her character is so lovely that you can't help but feel sorry for her but love her at the same time. All she wants to do is to help people, dead or alive, and she will go to any lengths to do this no matter what harm may come to her.

I love all supernatural type shows and this is one of my favourite ones, along with Supernatural. Each story is exciting, contains lots of emotions and gets you really involved and it's very different to any other US series. There are often some very sad and moving parts when the family are speaking to their lost one through Melinda that often reduces me to tears.

The only query I have about it is that it is a little questionable and strange how there are so many ghosts in the tiny town that she lives in!

This is a brilliant US series and if you're into supernatural and ghost genres then you should definitely give this watch as there's nothing to dislike and I love it.
