Advantages: Minute by minute football coverage
Disadvantages: Jeff Stellings terrible puns
Every Saturday from one o’clock until half past five, or any night there are is a programme of cup ties or league games being played, you’ll find this programme on. The best way I can think of to describe it is, it’s like teletext but with pictures.(I know that probably sounds stupid-but it really is the best description I can think of)Basically it keeps you up to date with all the action from every game that is being played. Jeff Stelling hosts the show, and in the studio watching some of the games live are a panel of people like- George Best, Frank MacLintock, Rodney Marsh, and Clive Allen. They are normally watching the top matches of the day and give an up to the minute commentary of incidents in the game. Before the games start, especially on a Saturday, the panel look at each game and assess the teams’ chances. Each panellist makes a prediction on the outcome of the game, some even give a predicted score line. The chitchat between the panel and Jeff Stelling is quite entertaining and when Frank Macklintock and Rodney Marsh get going it can be really funny. Its definitely not just another boring old football programme its actually quite good light entertainment. During the course of the day (or evening) you are kept up to date instantly when anything happens in a game, scorers, sendings off, even near misses are reported. If anything happens in a game you will get to know about it nearly instantly. This programme puts the BBC’s efforts of football coverage in Grandstand firmly in it’s place. I normally keep switching back to see the latest news and scores during the course of the afternoon , rather than watch the whole thing for five hours, but you could watch it all afternoon as it is an entertaining programme. Definitely a programme that football fans everywhere should watch.
