Advantages: It's funny, fast paced, and you'll be scratching your head to work out the pop culture references

Disadvantages: You will want to eat a burger and fries and overdose on coffee, and it's over :(

The Gilmore Girls is one of my favourite shows ever. It is set in a fictional small town in Connecticut, USA, featuring a cast of quirky characters. The Gilmore Girls themselves are mother Lorelai and Daughter Rory, who are more like best friends than mother and daughter. Lorelai works at an inn with best friend Sookie, a mishap-prone cheef, a singleton until she gets together with the match-made-in-heaven Jackson, her vegetable supplier! Add to this the generally grumpy but lovable Luke, owner of the Cafe in which Rory and Lorelai eat every day of their life, bizarre Kirk, store owner and would be town owner Taylor Doosey, and Lorelai's rich parents who she left at age 17 when Rory was just 1 to escape their suffocating environment! The show is a breath of fresh air, has excellent fast-paced dialogue with pop culture references crammed into each 45 minute episode. We see Rory from age 16 entering private school, right through to her time at Yale University, and get to ponder how Rory and Lorelai can eat so much junk food and never ever get fat (and how they have the money to eat out for three meals a day and countless coffee orders!). Everytime I watch this show, I wish there was a real Stars Hollow and that I lived there. And that I was as clever as Rory is.. ah well, I can dream!

Summary: Small town America with charm
