Mother and Daugher Or Best Friends?

Advantages: Light hearted, good show with lots of drama
Disadvantages: That theres no more series!
I'd previosuly never heard of this programme and had no intentions of watching it. However when I finished Uni for the Summer and had nothing to do in the day, I would be sat at home watching the tele, flicking through the channels when I came accross Gilmore Girls on E4. As there was nothing else on the TV I left it on, and was actually rather suprised at how much I liked it.
It is about a mother and daughter, Lorelai Gilmore being the mother and her namesake daughter 'Rory'. They live in Stars Hollow, which is like a small close knit village with lots of events and shops going on. The main storylines follow the relationship between mother and daughter as they are so close and can often be mistaken for sisters or best friends.
Lorelai has an interesting relationship with her parents which develops in many ways as the series go on, there are love dramas for both the girls, and Rory high interest in newspapers and Universitys fill the show with lots of drama.
The plot lines develop over the series and take many different turns. Rory starts dating a good well behaved boy called Dean, but then decides to go for a 'bad boy' Jesse, and then going to university and ending up with a not so good rich boy, Logan. Lorelai love life is just as complicated with her moving from being engaged to Rorys school teacher, to going back with Rory's Dad, to dating Luke, with a few more in between.
Lorelai had Rory when she was young, which her parents did not approve of as they are from a wealthy background and a high social standing in the community, so Lorelai left home and raised Rory on her own, it is only when she needs help to finance Rory school fee's that we see the grandparents, and the regular friday night dinners begin.
It is very community spirited in the show and everybody knows each other.
Another main part of the story is Lorelai's love of B&B's, eventually setting up her own business with best friend and chef Sooki.

It is a good light hearted show with lots of drama's and you get to know the characters well. They all bounce off each other and I think it is well acted. The storyline between Luke and Loreali is one of my favourites, and I want spoil the ending for you, you'll have to watch all the series!
I think many parents and daughters may be able to relate to some of the storylines in the show, and it makes a nice change to have a positive programme with a young clever girl doing well for once!
Summary: If theres nothing else on give it a try! You'll soon be hooked!
