The Gilmore Girls is a TV series that I had been hearing good things about for a while, and kept trying to catch episodes but it is unfortunately on TV when I am at work.
DVD Rental company to the rescue - I have watched the whole of series 1 and 2 now through renting the discs, and I can not wait to start receiving series 3.
This show is American and originally ran from 2000 to 2007 (I am a couple of years behind). It follows the lives of mother and Daugher, Lorelai and Lorelai (better known as Rory) Gilmore, how live in the idealic town of Stars Hollow.
There is a slight back story which you learn pretty early on - Lorelai fell pregnant in High School and raised her daughter alone, after the father left, and he parents were less than pleased. The town has a close community.... which includes Dinner Owner - Luke, Best friends - Lane & Sookie, & Grandparents - Richard and Emily.
I find the characters extremely likeable and I am really enjoying the series. Rory is the more sensible of the two, and Lorelai the child in the relationship (most of the time). The mother / daughter relationship is really nice, and also the girls relationship with grandparents Emily and Richard is nice to watch, as they transition from uncomfortable Friday night dinner to a loving family. The banter and spark between Luke and Lorelai is enjoyable, and the will they, won't they is brilliant!
Lauren Graham plays Lorelai Gilmore. Lorelai is very independant and is extremely proud of everything she has achieved for her and her daughter.
Alexis Bledel plays Rory Gilmore. Rory is a very smart and sensible girl, she is also independent and driven, like her mother.
Scott Patterson plays Luke Danes. Luke owners the diner that Lorelai and Rory practically live in. He is a bit grouchy, but loveable, with a heart of gold and a real soft spot for Lorelai.
Kelly Bishop plays Emily Gilmore. Lorelai's mother. Emily and Lorelai have a difficult relationship although over time this is getting better.
Edward Herrmann plays Richard Gilmore, Lorelai's father. Richard is hard working and has a very close bond with Rory.
Melissa McCarthy plays Sookie. Sookie is Lorelai's best friend, she is scatty and obsessie about her cooking, but very loving and friendly.
Keiko Agena plays Lane. Lane is Rory's best friend, she has a very strict mother, and can often be found sneaking out of her house to see her friends.
There are far to many likeable characters, such as Kirk, the town excentric, or Babette, their wacky neighbour, Dean and Jesse - Rory's love interests. All the little character make the show just as much as these bigger Characters.
I am really enjoying this series, and would strongly recommend it.
