Good Morning TV.
The morning offering on ITV for breakfast TV viewing is GMTV. Hosted by a variety of presenters including Fiona Philips, Ben Shephard, Andrew Castle, John Stapleton and Penny Smith amoungst others.
The programme mixes current affairs with lighthearted news stories. Cancer sufferers, ill children, etc are seen onscreen regularly. This is where I have a problem with GMTV. It seems to exploit the people who appear, telling their story in a glamourised way, putting a smile on everything. Ok, so some presenters are more sensitive than others, but some (Fiona Phillips) have a permanent, fixed smile that is about as warm as an ice cube, but it always seem to melt a little when there's a heart wrenching story.
The presenters try to make the show feel like they are part of your family or friends, being very informal, almost like a Heat or OK on television.
My relationship with GMTV ended completely after they were found guilty of defrauding over £40 million from their viewers in there phone in competitions. For this GMTV was fined a ridiculously low £2 million.
Over on the BBC, the breakfast show is far more highbrow, concentrating on the real news stories, stories that affect real people everywhere, perhaps in a more male orientated manner.
GMTV is the housewives favourite, as it allows them to find out the news whilst also finding out the latest gossip involving the latest celebs.
Summary: GMTV its not for me
