Advantages: More entertaining than its rivals

Disadvantages: Lorraine's segment is not particularly man friendly, with mainly fashion and make up

GMTV, which stands for Good Morning Television, is ITV's morning news programme that runs from 6.00 am to 9.25 am. The programme usually has two presenters throughout the main part of the show, while during one day of the week, usually Friday, the show is hosted by Lorraine Kelly.

During the main part of the programme there is a combination between the four different presenters. The four main presenters are Ben Sheppard, Kate Garraway, John Castleton and Emma Crosby. What I feel is that the new line up of presenter that was recently changed at the beginning of 2009, has made the programme more entertaining, unlike previous presenters like Fiona Phillips. Although sometimes Kate Garraway can get on your nerves with a sometimes smug attitude.

Throughout the show, it is usually broken down in to three sections, a short 6.00 to 7.00 section, a 7.00 to 8.30 section and finally a 8.30 section to 9.25. The finally section is usually presented by Lorraine Kelly in her section that was renamed as part of the relaunch to GMTV with Lorraine, although for some reason she seems unable to work five days a week, as she only presents a Monday to a Thursday.

In the first two sections of the show, the programme focuses on new items, although they are not always subjects that I would really consider the most note worthy; such as example was showing a mother that had spent £15,000 on her one year old child, how is that note worthy news?

In Lorraine's section, the focus for some reason seems to be on items that only relate to women. Although there are items such as interviews with the people of recent interest, such as if they have a new movie out. But the majority of the time the subject is related to fashion, but I would not mind this if the fashion was also related to men but its sole focus is on women; another subject is the hair and makeup that is on almost every show. It almost makes you wonder if the show really does not want men to watch.

One good thing that I like about the show is the section where GMTV has guest reports, such as Martin Lewis (who runs moneysavingexpert.com), who gives excellent money advise.

Overall I would recommend the show if you are not interested in the alternative programmes available such as Sky's Sun Rise and BBC's Breakfast News. Although if you do watch the show, be prepared to watch a show that is celebrity obsessed in nature and does not always have the highest standards of journalism. One criticism that I would make of the show is in Lorraine's segment, to make it more male friendly and have items that interest men not just women.

Summary: Ok if there is nothing else on TV

It was funny to watch Emma sitting 'too close' to her co presenters in the beginning. I think she was nervous!
