Advantages: Funny, Famous Voices
Disadvantages: Deals with religious themes
In a world where there is murder, theft and dishonesty lives a man called Bob. He’s just a normal average guy dealing with the stress of his job, his wife Donna and bringing up his popularity obsessed young teen daughter, Megan and young son Andy, who appears to live in a world of his own, which greatly contributes to this original comedy. The world of course is ours and in a final attempt to keep it, instead of scrapping the old one and starting over again, God decides to get the help of Bob. Bob is given several things to do to prove that the world isn’t such a bad place and is worth keeping, such as writing ‘smile’ on a billboard, which gets him arrested in one episode and sent an insane asylum due to his claims of actually seeing God. It’s not just Bob who messed up his tasks but also the Devil, (accompanied by Smeck his assistant) who is quite threatened by the closeness God and Bob share. Being the devil, he wants to get rid of the world and especially Bob. The animated comedy deals with religious issues which meant it was banned in some parts of America even though it uses everything in the best possible context. It manages to tackle some issues by avoiding them resulting in having no influence on them. There are many stars voices used, including Alan Cumming (Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion) who plays the Devil, French Stewart (3rd Rock from the sun) plays Bob, Megan is played by Nancy Cartwright (The Simpsons), Kath Soucie (Rugrats) plays Andy, Laurie Metcalf (Roseanne) plays Donna and James Garner (Maverick) plays God. The programme contains both visual and verbal jokes which I think is what makes it so funny. Bob: I’m wearing that new thong you bought me! Donna: You’re wearing it backwards! Bob: I know!.... I meant to do that! Donna: Next time you might wanna pick a side!” I advise you to watch this programme!
It rules!
