Advantages: It's about clothes!
Disadvantages: Same every week
Over the last couple of years Gok Wan has quickly replaced Trinny and Suzannah becoming the 'best' stylist on televsion. He's done a number of fashion programmes for channel 4 and most recently he got his own self titled show called Goks Fashion Fix.
Every show sees Gok meet a women, they tend to be around 30 to 45. He goes through their entire wardrobe, (usually displays it on a washing line somewhere really public first!) and usually bins a huge amount of it. The women he sees are in desperate need of being shown what suits them and what colours to wear.
After giving them a make over with a decent hair dresser and make up artist the women is then shown her capsule wardrobe. It contains 20 interchangeable items including shoes and handbags. All of these items are picked because of their shape, cut and colour.
The women is predictably overjoyed and vows to never go back to the frumpy baggy things most of them previously owned.
Not great in my opinion, same type of woman every week who just needs a bit of help but isn't terribly entertaining to watch.
Another part of the show sees a group of over weight women 'test drive' a range of clothes made for bigger women. For example boots have been tested by them all taking part in a line dancing class, mac's have been tested at a theme park etc.
Quite entertaining as there is usually one brand and product that gets slated when all the buttons pop off or the zip breaks.
Gok also meets a celebrity to show them what available on the high street compared to their wardrobe of designer buys. These have included Ruby Wax (last week), Lorraine Kelly and Cilla Black.
When they high street though they don't been the likes of Primark which in my opinion would be more interesting than the usual Topshop. Most often though they go to the more high end places such as Coast and All saints. Slightly cheating I think.
Then there is the best part of the show, Gok goes head to head with a major fashion buyer, Brix. He has to get his four models outfits from the high street while Brix has an unlimited budget to buy her clothes from the big designers. The models then go in front of an audience where the audience chooses the best set of models not knowing which is designer and which is high street. Gok often customises his clothes too to give more detail to make them look more designer he thinks. Most of the time I think the clothes look better before he 'customises' them.
Predictably Gok and the high street always win. Brix has only won once out of all last series and the approximately 6 episodes of this series. In my opinion it's an absolute fix. Goks outfits are sometimes terrible and would not appeal to the average girl who's doing the voting.
This is on every Tuesday at 8pm on Channel Four. It also get's repeated on E4 I believe.
All in all I watch it but I don't think it's amazing. The transformations are very similar every week (he always adds a horrible neck scarf) so it doesn't feel like your missing much if you don't catch that bit. The best part is without a doubt the catwalk show but again even that has it's negatives.
Summary: Yet I still watch it...

- 12/06/09 Nice review - I love GOK but it has become formulaic and some of his chopping up of clothes is not needed |

- 23/05/09 I totally agree that it is fixed most of the time for Gok to win, and sometimes they pick the most awful designerclothes, making Gok's choice look better...but it wouldn't be hard. |

- 23/05/09 I think Gok overdoes the accessories a lot of the time. He adds too much detail and makes things look gaudy. |
