Advantages: Entertaining and nothing like seen before
Disadvantages: shows our greedy nature and people getting betrayed
Goldenballs is a TV show on ITV 1 hosted by Jasper Carrot. It's quite different to anything I've seen before on TV, with constantly arguing contestants fighting for survival in the next round.
So the rules go as there being 4 contestants in round 1, and are each given 4 golden balls each in which they reveal the front 2 and leave the back 2 closed. The balls contain cash amounts ranging from 10 pounds to 75000 pounds. Rules are simple, bring through the contestants with the most amound of money. If only it was that simple. Among these cash balls are what's called killer ball, which in the last round or head to head literally decimate cash amounts. So you want to get rid of the people with those. However, with the back 2 balls shut, how can you tell who has killers, and who has cash. Ofc, killers may be shown in the front row, which make a contestant less likely to go through.
So contestants have to try to convince each other they should go through as they have good cash amounts. And alot of the time that includes lying. So they have to try to work out who is lying and who is telling the truth. The loser has to bin their balls at the end of round 1. This is then repeated in round 2 where a 2nd player is eliminated.
In head to head the remaining players work together and their balls are laid shut infront of them on a table. They then take it in turns to pick balls to win and to bin. The ball which is binned is lost forever in the game, and the ball which is picked to win goes on a cash row and its face value counts towards the player's jackpot. They can't tell which balls they are picking. If say they have 10 000 pounds on their winner row, and then pick a killer to win, the total is knocked down to 1000 pounds ie decimated. So you need to avoid picking killers to win, and you want to bin them.
After all of that, and once a grand total has been established, players must place trust in each other as to whether they split or steal the amound from each other. They each get 2 balls, one says steal another says split. They can't tell what one the other choses. If a player chooses steal and the other split, the one who stole wins the lot and the one who split wins nothing. If they both choose split they both split the jackpot, and if they both choose steal they both get nothing. So the pair try to convince each other that they will split and then can sometimes lie and steal and other times remain true to their word. Quite a cruel ending.
The game seems to bring out the worst in people, and goes to show the greed in society. I personally am not too keen on it as it sees good trusting people betrayed by nasty people who go against their word. But they know the rules before they go on I guess. But it's great to see 2 people who split the money but that happens really in minority of cases. Greed all round.
Still a good show which is very entertaining and a good watch.
Summary: Im sure not everyone will like it due to alot of the outcomes.
