Advantages: good family game show with several twists
Disadvantages: can get a bit samey!
Okay, I admit that although I was really looking forward to this game show - it was hosted by the loveable and very funny Jasper Carrot, what's not to like ? - it did take me a few days to really get into this programme. However, now it seems like unmissable t.v.
I know that there is a board game of this show but I haven't seen that.
This is a great game show, so if you haven't seen it, but you like game shows with twists and turns, give it a go.
Let me tell you about it.
Who's the host ?
Loveable, cuddly (I bet it's the first time he's been called that), and very funny Birmingham comedian, Jasper Carrot. - Okay, so I'm biased, I'm from the midlands and I've met Jasper. That aside, he is a great host who puts the contestants at their ease. A true 'people person'.
And the game ?
Well, at first it can seem a bit confusing. Although, like most things, when you get used to it, it is as easy as wink - oh no, I've just remembered, I can't wink !
Never mind, I'll try to explain it...
There are 4 contestants.
They are each given 4 golden balls.
That equals 16 balls.
However, only 12 have a money amount inside them, the other 4, sneakily
, have KILLER written inside them.
Each player shows two balls on their front row. They open them.
Remember, some have Killer in them.
The players then try to argue the point as to why they should be taken through to the next round and not voted off. Obviously, this is more difficult if you have one or two killer balls already showing.
One person is voted off at the end of the first round.
This is repeated during the second round. Except that more balls are added and some are Killer balls.
Another player is voted off at the end of the second round.
The two remaining players fight it out in the final.
All of the money balls plus any Killers taken through, they are then laid on a table.
The two finalists take it in turns to choose a ball to keep (hoping that it is a money ball) and then a ball to lose ( hoping that it is a killer ball).
Is there a twist ?
Yes.
If they choose a ball to keep and say, it is worth £100, great. However, the next ball to keep is a killer ( they don't know this until they have chosen and it's opened), the total then goes down to £10. And so on throughout the game.
So you should try to lose the killers ?
Well, ideally yes, although because you don't know what's inside the balls, it's not that easy !
Is that the only twist ?
Oh no,...
At the end what ever money is left could be won by one, both or none of the two remaining players.
How so ?
They get to choose at the end whether to 'split' or 'steal'.
If they both say 'SPLIT', then the jackpot is divided equally between the two players.
if they both say 'STEAL' neither goes home with any money.
If one player says 'SPLIT' and one says 'STEAL', then the one who said STEAL, takes the lot. The other goes home empty handed.
That doesn't seem fair !
Well, no, nor to me, but it does make the game more interesting doesn't it ?
Should I watch or not ?
The verdict...
Yes, if you like game shows then I'd reccommend that you watch. It is full of twists and turns, as you never really know what the contestants are going to do - right up to the last minute !
It's good entertainment, for all the family to watch.
Try to sus out the players... what do you think they'll do ?
You will soon be addicted to this game show.
Summary: good entertainment, good game show, worth a watch.
