Golden Balls is a Tv gameshow that is shown on ITV 1 at 5.00 pm daily and is hosted by Jasper Carrot.

The game involves four players sitting and facing off against each other in a circle, while at the same time having to trust one another. Each person is given four Golden Balls, each with either a different money amount or a killer ball. The aim of the game is to get the most amount of money though each round and remove as many killer balls as possible. At the end of each round the contestants have the opportunity to choose who they want eliminated from the game.

But before the players have the chance to chose who they want to eliminate from the game, they have the ability to discuss what balls are currently in their possession. What you will find in this part, and the whole show, is either the contestants play am honest game meaning that they are telling the truth as to what balls they possess; or the player lies throughout the game.

After two rounds there are two players left who take the balls that both players had left and use these to work out how much the winning player or players take home. As each player takes in turns to either keep a ball or bin a ball. After this is over and the final amount is finally known four final balls are presented to the player, two each; one ball states split and the other steal. As the player has the choice of what they want to do with the final total, split it with the person that is opposite them or steal the whole lot for themselves, but if the player goes for that option and the other player also does the same then no one will take the money. But is the player goes for steal and the other split, then the steal player keeps the money; and if both players split then the money is split 50:50.

The presenter of Golden Balls is the comic Jasper Carrot, as he tries to inject a bit of humour into proceedings. But in reality the programme is the type that could be presented by anybody and it would not make any difference as the focus of the show is mostly on the contestants. Really it could be said that all Carrot does is drag the format out by asking the contestants questions after or just before they are about to make their choice.

Overall the programme is one of those low budget programmes that was created to fill in the void of the 5.00 pm schedule on ITV. Really the format of the show is dragged out by Jasper Carrot, when in reality the programme could be reduced to a half hour show.

Another point about the programme is that it seems to bring out the worse of people, and in a way is indicative of Britain today, and the reason that we got into the recession that we are in today, the motive of greed. As throughout the show it would seem that the only way to get to the final and have a chance of winning the money is to lie, and even before the programme starts the players even state they are going to lie and take the money at the end no matter what.

For these reasons when I watched the programme in the one occasion I found the programme boring and dull, as all it was people sitting around in a circle lying to each other, it could be said that it is Deal or No Deal except with balls and just less contestants.

Summary: Similar to deal or no deal, but with balls and lies

I find this particular game show a bit tedious really, great review though!

I don't like any of the nasty minded shows that have come out in the past decade. The world is a grim enough place without being encouraged by the TV to do over our fellow man.
