Goodness Gracious MeNewest Review: ... and more importantly, such a funny programme deserved peak time scheduling. Goodness Gracious Me is a very funny comedy sketch show but it is also much more than that. It is relevant social comment. But in a truly multi-racial democratic society should we not also allow comedians wider scope to exploit multiculturalism from the other side. I am certainly not suggesting deeply offensive or inciteful jokes to be told but have we not gone too far. Have we allowed political correctness to go too far? As for the very brave young lady who told the joke about her condition, it was not a very funny joke and at the end of her telling it I smile... more |

I will start by telling you a joke about Cerebral Palsy. A young girl with cerebral palsy goes to the ice cream van and asks for a cone. What flavour ? says the ice cream man. It does not matter she replies I will drop it anyway. A joke that is not funny you might say but if I tell you that joke was told by one of Britains paralympic athletes who herself suffers from cerebral palsy and whose actually telling of the joke is a triumph of the human spirit would you think differently? And of course what has that got to do with Goodness Gracious Me? The question is actually is it acceptable and funny for a member of an ethnic or religious minority to make fun of ... First of all, the good news - http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/guide/articles/g/goodnessgracious_66601650.shtml is the address where you can find the customary helpful BBC background info and news about Goodness Gracious Me, and the web page is as good as you would expect from the wonderful people at the Beeb (I don't subscribe to any of the nonsense put out as part of the Hutton Report about the media institution - these guys remain the very best at everything televisual and demand our support). Here you can find out all you possibly could desire to know about this Asian comedy series, including the listing of ... Read the complete review

Goodness Gracious Me is a show performed almost completly by four Indian actors/actresses. It is a great programme which shows through comedy the oddities in the Indian culture and the great social and religious rifts that divide the country. Anyway, back on the comedy side, there are some great sketches, especially with the two boasting mothers and the two rebel teenagers. If you were lucky enough to see the special episode when the team went back to India, you will have seen some really good examples of their work. However, the show saometimes suffers from sketches that go on past their quality date and some that should never have got onto the show at ... Read the complete review

This is the best comedy to have been produced here in the U.K. Usually we have to relly on America for our weekly fix of comedy (Simpsons, south park etc). So finally we have produced an award winning comedy. This is no ordinary comedy sketch show, it is a fairly contraversial sketch show which tackels taboo subjects from Aranged marriges and unhelpful uncles to racsism and stupidity. But it takes theese points on in such a comical way, for instance, a good example are the Dehli Students, as they where entering a train station a bunch of white thugs shouted out: "LOOK PAKIS, GET 'EM" And then they hurled a brick at ... This show should have everybody from any culture in complete fits of laughter! The concept: Indians making fun of themselves! Essentially a comedy show, commented as being a 'sort of Asian Fast show' with sketches are performed, by the four main comedians; Meera Sayal, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Kulvinder Ghir and Nina Wadia. The show originally started on radio, and when its potential was realised it was transferred to TV. Brilliantly performed, sketches include a man who insists everything is Indian (including William Shakespeare); the backpackers from India (they started haggling over a price of a newspaper!); the Mr-Check-please-guy; and ...
