Advantages: entertaining, motivating for beginners
Disadvantages: none
I got into watching Gordon Ramsey's cookalong live on channel 4, Friday nights or sometimes from a recording through Sky, because my boyfriend was quite intrigued with trying out the recipes.
This program features Gordon Ramsey, a guest celebrity and a few other groups of real people from all over Britain. They get to cook along with Gordon and there's a particular menu set for that week. The people also get to interact and talk to Gordon.
People of the public can also cook along if they so wish, though I prefer watching the program first as it's quite distracting to try and watch and cook at the same time... Also, I haven't got a TV in my kitchen and having someone shout what needs to be done is just not very practical at all.
It's a fun concept for a cooking program though, and I find it quite entertaining to watch. I also love the fact that Gordon gets people to cook with his recipes and helps to motivate people into trying to cook i.e. Indian food from scratch, rather than just settle for a take away.
They post up the ingredients on the Channel 4 website (channel4.com), the week before, so you can make the necessary preparations if you wish to cook with the program on the night.
The website is also very useful as you can view the ingredients in an order, that makes it much easier for you to shop because they put everything in groups: i.e. refrigerated and frozen foods, bakery etc.
The website also lists the previous recipes for you to try if you've missed them.
All in all a very entertaining, interactive cooking program. I'm definitely going to try these recipes though I already love to cook, this would definitely be great for people who are just starting out with cooking.
Summary: an entertaining, interactive cooking program
