Advantages: Sexy and exciting with a fantastic cast

Gossip Girl started in 2007 and is currently filming its 3rd series, due to air in the autumn. It is based on the book of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesar. I havent read the books so i dont know how close to tv series comes to staying the same as these storylines.

Set in Manhatten, New York, Gossip Girl follows the lives of a group of teenagers who go to elusive prep schools on the Upper East Side. Constance Billard is for the girls and St Jude's is for the boys.

Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) unexpectedly returns to New York after being sent away to boarding school and has a run in with sort of best friend Blair (Leighton Meester). Blair and Serena were the best of friends but since Serena's departure, she has hardly kept in touch with Blair. All sorts of problems arise from Serena's appearance and everyone wants to know why she's back....and why she even left in the first place. Blair is the new 'queen bee' at Constance and is very devious and bitchy to anyone who gets in her way.

Nate (Chase Crawford) is quite the ladies man and causes plenty of problems for Serena and Blair after being with both of them. After feeling betrayed by Nate, Blair turns to Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), the wealthiest, most elite socialite around. Chuck is also Nate's best friend. He's even more scheming and sneeky than the rest of the group and will go to any length to get what he wants, and thats Blair.

Serena's main love interest is Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley). Dan and his sister Jenny (Taylor Momsen) are both at the prep schools on scholorships, this being the main reason no one likes Dan. Dan's best friend is Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) but she goes to public school, pretty much making even more of an outsider than Dan.

No one knows who Gossip Girl is, but he or she knows everything about everyone else. Although the voice is done by a girl, it is never made known who Gossip Girl actually is. GG regularly sends text messages to the whole school with illicit gossip about the gang but no one really knows where she gets all of her information. It is possible to send information to GG but thats it. Many people have tried to unmask GG but are never sucessful. In season 2, because everyone is determined to find out who she is, GG rebels by publishing the deepest, darkest secrets about the group. The end of the show always ends with some narative from GG with the famous like 'XOXO Gossip Girl'.

Gossip Girl is one of my favourite shows at the minute and i cant wait for season 3. There are many twists and turns happening over the first 2 series and we never know whats going to happen next between the gang. Just when you think its not possible for the show to get even more exciting. I think the story is pretty realistic even though many dont think it is. A lot of people think that teenagers just dont act the way these teenagers do. Most of the characters have lots of money and distant parents, if this were me id be doing anything i wanted as well.

Over the 2 series, the show deals with a lot of real life issues such as sex, drugs and realtionships. All shows like this have to have something that the audience can connect with, and although the lifestyle of the gang isnt really for everyone, their problems are. As we follow the gang over the 2 years we can see them grow as people and how their actions and decisions affect their lives.

Gossip Girl is sexy and exciting but it is also really funny. Chuck Bass provides us with some very witty one liners. He is supposed to be the bad guy who everyone hates but i love him. I really enjoyed seeing how his character changed after realising he was in love even though he never showed changes to his friends. I think deep down he really is a nice guy who just wants to be happy but he doesnt know how to be happy due to the fact he's pretty much always alone.

If you havent seen Gossip Girl yet, give it a try. It'll probably get you as hooked as i am.

Summary: Fantastic show about the rich and bitchy.
