Advantages: Enjoyable plotlines and easy to watch
Disadvantages: None for me!
Gossip Girl is a series based on the Gossip Girl books by Cecily von Ziegasar and produced by the same people who made the O.C.
It's set in Manhatten and tells the story of a group of rich teenagers who live in the city and attend school together. The main characters in this group are Chuck, Nate, Blair and Serena. There are also two other main characters who attend the school, Dan and Jenny, who aren't as wealthy as everyone else and live in Brooklyn, as well as Vanessa, a friend of Dan, who doesn't attend school.
The series depicts their lives and the various romantic dramas that happen between all of the characters. It is narrated by a mysterious character that we do not know the identity of - gossip girl. She runs a gossip website that people send in news and photos to of the people at school, and she makes sure it gets spread.
There are some similarities to be drawn between this series and the O.C, for example the "dream lives" that the characters seem to live, where they have lots of money and live in beautiful houses - it doesn't show the life of an everyday New York teenager.
Another similarity is the involvement of the parents in the story line. Whilst it appears to be a teenage drama, there are plenty of storylines involving their parents and other adults, which possibly makes it appeal to a wider audience.
I would highly recommend this show to anyone who enjoyed the O.C and similar programmes, it's full of drama and interesting storylines, and the characters are very engaging and enjoyable to watch.
If you like shows with serious plot lines tackling real issues, and get annoyed by spoilt teenagers, this is probably not the show for you.
Summary: A great teenage drama
