Advantages: Fantastic food, menus and characters

This television programme was on BBC2 at 18:30pm for half hour episodes each evening. It is presented by Jenny Bond, and has Prue Leith, the celebrated chef, Matthew Fort, the food critic and Oliver Peyton the owner of the National Dining Rooms.

The idea of this programme is that the best professional chefs in the country from each region compete for the honour of cooking a banquet for returning military figures coming back from Afghanistan.

The preliminary stages ask two chefs from each region to compete creating three dishes for the judges, the judges choose their favourite chef to put through, and eventually the chefs are narrowed down to the three best dishes. The public help by voting for their favourite dishes.

I like the programme it is very formal and there is a real competitive edge to the chefs as they are all professional and really proud of their work. Its interesting watching professional chefs cook amazing dishes and occasionally mess up, it is great to see this and there are some really interesting characters involved.

The menus are included on the bbc website and look amazing, the final programme showing the winning chefs from each region cooking for the military was brilliant watching the pride the chefs felt and the skill they put into them. The military were so appreciative and it was a really emotional programme. It is well made, has a feelgood factor and amazing food. Well worth watching in the next series.
