The new BBC2 Hairy Bikers programme shown daily Monday to Friday at 5:15pm is a breath of fresh air to most other cookery shows on the television. I always look forward to new series's of the Hairy Bikers as their unique combination of cookery, brilliant northern humour and informative and interesting programmes never fails to deliver. If you are unfamiliar with the Hairy Bikers they are Dave Myers from Cumbria (my home county) and Si King from Tyne and Wear. The pair are not chefs but have a love of cookery and finding the best ingredients from the the places they visit whilst on their many road trips they take on their motor ... Read the complete review

I love the Hairy Bikers, down to earth Northern (yay!) lads who don't profess to be the best cooks in the World but are still brilliant cooks all the same. They're not professional cooks but life-long foodies and their love of food shines through in all that they do. The Hairy Bikers are two best mates, Simon King and David Myers who believe it or not actually met on a Catherine Cook adaptation, Simon worked behind the scenes in TV as an assistant director and Dave as a make-up artist! For BBC2 they have made two series of The Hairy Bikers Cookbook, a third series called The Hairy Bikers Ride Again, a one-off special, The Hairy Bikers Come Home, which sees ... Watching Dave and Si as the 2 hairy bikers is somewhat of a revelation in TV cooking shows because its cooking without the annoying ego that some tv chefs possess! My wife and I are very ken cooks with a particular taste for real homecooked style food, and find that watching many of the cooking shows gives little realistic ideas - however the hairy bikers seem to often turn out just real good food cooked simply, and gives us many ideas for our weekly meals! One of the best points about the show is the little tips for the simple things - like how to make the perfect yorkshire pudding, and how to use a little semolina to crisp up your roasties - its ... I've always been a fan of the Hairy Bikers. I've never gone out of my way to watch their programs, but when I've seen clips of them, or seen Si King and Dave Myers as guests on other programs, I've always found them informative and very funny (if not slightly bonkers!). I managed to catch a few episodes of their "Hairy Bakers" series, and I was hooked. Proper home cooking, and neither of them trying to prove they're the best cooks in the word - just them trying to learn from the experts and do the best they can in a realistic (un-chefy!) way. This series, The Food Tour of Britain, has a similar feel. As they take us around numerous ... Read the complete review

They've made a whopping 30 epsiodes of this 45 minute long food programme, of which we're about 11 or 12 in so far already, and still going strong. The powers that be at the BBC have obviously decreed that 'sometime around teatime' is a good time to show long-lasting regional / British cookery shows on BBC2; before this we had the interminable 'Great British Menu' series of professional-chef cook-offs which lasted an hour and started at six; whereas the new 'Hairy Bikers' programme starts at the slightly odd hour of five-fifteen, finishing just in time for a daily dose of the 'Eggheads' panel quiz. The 'Hairy Bikers Food Tour' shares elements in ... Read the complete review
