Advantages: Harry Enfield

Disadvantages: Every sketch

I hate to judge a new series on the first show, but I must confess That the new Harry Enfield series on sky One is dire. Not one of the characters was a patch on any of Harrys previous incarnations. Don't get me wrong, I really wanted to like it and I really wanted to laugh but there was nothing to laugh at. The Jeremy Paxman was just crude ( and I am not a prude but just swearing IS NOT funny) The Bond brother was just irritating ("give us a tinkle"...what a lame catchphrase) and did anyone get the two (gay?) blokes living together, 'cos it went straight over my head!

I have been a fan of Harry's since Stavros and Friday Night Live and I have always admired the way he dumps characters in order to create room for new ones. Stavros, Loadsamoney, Smashie and Nicey all bit the dust but were all replaced by new characters every bit as good.

Until now.

It looks like the absence of Paul Whitehouse and the wonderful Kathy Burke have left too big a void for Harry to fill. Still at least it's tucked away on Sky One where no one will watch it. If you are new to Enfield watch the repeats on BBC1 and UK Gold and enjoy but give this a miss.

I agree with you - I watched the first couple and decided he had sold out to just being plain rude for it's own sake. I found it "quite literally, mate", a turn off. IS THAT WHAT HE WANTS, COZ THAT'S WHAT'LL 'APPEN! to quote one of the earlier and better series.
