We watch Heir Hunters just in case there is a slight chance that we may recognise a long lost relative, and be in line for a fortune, we never knew about. The program is about an heir hunting company called Frazers who pore over the records to see who as died without a will. The more money the person left, the more Frazers stand to gain, if they can find the closest relatives and get them to sign a contract before any of the competition find and sign them. Did you know that every year the government gets about £25 million from the estates of deceased people who did not make out a will and whose heirs cannot be traced if they indeed exist at all. Not only that but there is a very profitable industry that exists to track these heirs of the dead down, when they do they sign them up to a contract before releasing the information about what these people are entitled to and when the whole thing is settled they take their cut and the previously unaware individuals het to count their inheritance. Heir Hunters is a BBC programme on at 9.15 every weekday morning. It follows probate researchers and is really quite interesting. Every Thursday the Government produce a list of people who have died without making a will. Probate research companies take on these cases and try to find the benificiaries who are entitled to their relatives money. During the show around 4 cases are solved and various different probate research companies are shown. Often the cases are very intricate and complex. Heir Hunters is a geological programme that follows heir hunters as they reunite people with the estate of a person that has died without leaving a will. The main part of the show follows one of the oldest firms in the United Kingdom, Fraser and Fraser. The show is currently in a new series during the week at 9.15 am, straight after the BBC Breakfast news. Originally the show was presented by Nadia Sawalha, but is not currently narrated by Lisa Faulkner.
