Advantages: great banter, good format, very entertaining

Disadvantages: poor choice of celebrities

It seems that cookery shows are more popular than ever at the moment. Hells Kitchen has to be one of my favourites though. It first came to our screens in 2004 and is still going strong today in its fourth series. The show see's celebrities becoming apprentice chefs under the guidance of master chef Marco Pierre White. The show is hosted by Claudia Winkelman.

It's similar to other shows of its nature in that it doesn't attract any major stars, more the calibre of celebrity that thinks it's a good opportunity to get their face on the telly and for a decent bit of dosh too. For example this year's celebrity chefs are:

Ms Dynamite - singer famous about four years ago
Linda Evans - American actress
Anthea Turner - former television presenter
Grant Bovey - he's Anthea's husband, not sure if he's famous?
Adrian Edmondson - comedian
Jody Latham - actor in channel fours Shameless
Danielle Box - model
Bruce Grobbelaar - former Liverpool goalkeeper

I watched the show for the first time this series last night and it was very entertaining. The kitchen was under intense pressure and mistakes were being made left right and centre as a result, which was funny. Jody had been given a twenty four hour reprieve from eviction, which had got up the nose of the other celebrities as they feared they would be the ones evicted and he may remain. However, they had nothing to worry about as Jody duly left the studio after Marco said to the team that he recognised that Jody had been hurt in his early life, not sure what that was all about really?

Anyways, the usual format for the show is that each week one of the celebrities is sacked by Marco; they are told as they sit round a table and have to explain why they feel they should be kept as part of the team. This comes at the end of the evening session's service. The results and comments are fed back to the team via Nick the head waiter; scores are given out of ten for starters, mains, desserts if served and the service. All of this information contributes towards who is sacked as different celebrities are working on different dishes and the comments give the game away for some of them. In later episodes the competition becomes quite heated as they get more into the thrux of things and actually believe they can win the whole thing, this is hilarious.

The dinners are a real mix too, made up of ordinary paying public, visiting celebrities, food critics and fellow chefs just popping in to sample the food. Another funny aspect of the show is the way complaining guests are treated. Sometimes you get bigheads turning up who fancy their chances and tell Marco that the food is cooked properly etc. If he disagrees with what these guests are saying he normally asks for them to leave the restaurant! I thought this was going to happen in last night's episode, but Marco sided with the guest and was rather unimpressed with his headwaiter who he made apologise to the diners, haha!

The show is a real winner and I'll certainly be trying to catch the show when I can. Well recommended.

Thanks for reading, feel free to comment.

Summary: a great show, I'll be tuning in

I love this show! Though I think the American version is different because it has different chef's who are not stars.

Tried watching one of these, but shows like this just make me cringe! But, a great review.
