Advantages: Suspense, action and Marco

Disadvantages: Needs better celebrities

As a new found fan of cooking and everything to do with it, I have now found myself hooked to various TV cooking shows and Hell's Kitchen falls into that category. With that in mind I cannot comment on how this show worked during the Gordon Ramsay era, but I can on how it works now with new head chef Marco Pierre White at the helm.

I must admit that I was expecting a little more on "how to" cook from the show but that was my own lack of prior knowledge of the shows format really and what we have in Hell's Kitchen is far better. You can watch "how to" cook shows any day of the week but what this brings you is excitement, rows, tears, more excitement and one or two evictions. I have found the nightly episodes to be well put together and fast paced, much like it seems to be in a busy restaurant kitchen. The interviews are well positioned by the production team and, much like the Big Brother diary room, enable us to see what the contestants really think of each other.

I could well imagine how Gordon ran the kitchen, but I am surprised at the attributes of Marco. He is so calm whilst at the same time being authoratative in the right way. He adds quite a lot of suspense to the sackings as you really have no indication from his mannerisms as to who he is going to pick. He is the perfect man to step into Ramsay's boots.

I have even managed to get my husband into this and he hates reality TV shows, especially with so called celebrities, but he agrees with me in the respect that this show at least gets them doing something meaningful and we get to see them, warts and all. My one gripe is possibly the standard of celebrity and if I could make one suggestion for the production team it would be to go for more high profile stars. I honestly had only heard of Bruce Grobelaar, Anthea Turner Ade Edmondson.

I like the fact that the show is going off around them and the diners are probably more of a celebrity that the contestants. This adds some much needed glamour to the show and adds some real importance to what they are cooking.

As this is the first series I have seen, I can't really compare it to past showings but will definitely be tuning in for more next year should it get another airing.

Summary: Top notch cooking action. Its celeb BB with class and food
