Advantages: entertaining
Disadvantages: annoying celebs, claudia winkleman
Having been an avid follower of Hell's Kitchen over the years I tuned in to the latest series with interest. Although Marco Pierre White returned to run the kitchen, the format and host of the show had changed. Firstly Angus Deayton had been replaced by Claudia Winkleman and rather than having two competing kitchens with the public voting out their least favourite, this time round we had 8 celebs cooking in one kitchen with Marco sacking the first 4 before the public were let loose on the remaining quartet.
This years line up consisted of annoying husband and wife combo Anthea Turner and Grant Bovey, actor Ade Edmondson, aging Dynasty star Linda Evans, rapper Miss Dynamite, model Danielle Bux, dodgy goalkeeper Bruce Grobelaar and Shameless actor Jody Latham.
Without spoiling any of the eliminations, here's some quick thoughts on the participants:
Anthea Turner - she was very enthusiastic but came across as extremely annoying at times.
Grant Bovey - A bit smug and acted like he knew it all, often bullied people in to adopting his ideas.
Ade Edmondson - Very funny
Linda Evans - She looked so frail and old but didn't give up. For a big Hollywood star she came across as very down to earth.
Miss Dynamite - She wasn't afraid to speak her mind but at times it was pretty apparent she wasn't very good at cooking!
Danielle Bux - At first I thought she would be just another air head model but she was actually a very nice person and a very hard worker.
Bruce Grobelaar - I didn't want to like him, being a Saints fan I remember his match fixing scandal from a few years back but I hate to say it but he was by far the hardest working and the most reliable celebrity. Came across a very humble and honorable man.
Jody Latham - He had great potential but his immature attitude got in the way.
A couple of things I disliked about the show were the depiction of Marco Pierre White and the introduction of Claudia Winkleman. Marco was made to look like some kind of psycho chef giving people dirty looks and tasting food with a knife. But those of us who watched the show last year will recall that he's actually a softie at heart and was very supportive. Replacing Angus with Claudia was a bit of a disappointment as Angus looked comfortable with the one liners where as Claudia seemed to rush all the gags.
Although the format had changed and the line up was a little weak, HK still entertained and is worth a watch.
Summary: Worth a watch
