Advantages: great acting
Disadvantages: the pace
WHAT IS IT ABOUT:
The basic premise behind the show is that there are people in the world who have super powers: some can fly, some are indestructible etc etc. These superheroes join together to prevent disasters.
IS IT ANY GOOD:
This show started out really good - it was clearly high budget, and combined well written dialogue with an intriguing plot. Over the first few hours we met different people with special powers, and started putting the pieces together in terms of what they were all going to do.
Sadly, the show soon deteriorated into a slow paced and occasionally out and out dull affair. Much like 'Lost', it was like the show creators had worked out that the programme was popular, and had decided they would stretch it out as long as possible. Thus, series one has a mind blowing 23 episodes (surely a record?!) After five or six episodes the story started to stall, and needless character developments came in. There were many weeks where you actually gained nothing important, and the whole thing just dragged.
The acting is great, and the characters often lovable. Hiro is my favourite character, a lovable funny chap who can teleport.
Another down-side is that the story gets so complex that you need to follow it from the start. If you miss episodes, you'r stuffed, which is actually not a very good thing at all considering the length of each series.
IF YOU LIKED IT:
'Lost' is a better show, in that the story is more interesting, and it has the same high budget and great writing, but again often contains depressing lulls in the storyline.
IN CONCLUSION:
A show that offered so much, but the slow pace reduced it to average. It's time for TV execs to find the courage to make shorter, more concise seasons.
Summary: ignore it!
