Holby City

Newest Review: ... deaths, affairs, unplanned pregnancies and the like. I used to really like Holby City and used to watch it most weeks. However, four years ago, I started working in the NHS. I have spent several years working in a hospital and the fact is, Holby City is the least realistic hospital programme ever! OK, they have to dramatise things and yes, some things have to be unrealistic for the purposes of the show (junior doctors spend months on individual wards not years!), but some of it just really gets my goat! The other week for example, they had CHILD on an ADULT ward. Ridiculous. And why was that woman pregnant with the co-joined twi... more

Holby City is a hospital-based drama, which goes out on BBC1 for an hour every Tuesday. It is a spin-off from Casualty, both are set at Holby City Hospital. Most of the action is based around two wards at the hospital and it is heavily focused on the personal lives of the staff - mostly the nurses and doctors. It has a few famous faces in it, mostly it acts as a retirement home for old soap stars, it has Leslie Ash in it, Patsy Kensit and Robert Powell at the moment, but it is has had various well-known faces over the years. It's very 'soap' - lots of dramatic storylines, deaths, affairs, unplanned pregnancies and the like. I ...  Read the complete review

I am happy to say I haven't had much to do with hospitals (touch wood). However whenever I have heard cast members of Holby City being interviewed they all comment on how realistic everything is and how they researched their part by attending hospital operations.  Holby City is a spin off from the popular saturday night programme Casualty. Whereas Casualty deals with how the accidents happen, the accident and emergency department and the ambulance crews, Holby City tends to deal with the more longer term patients and other departments of the hospital. You also tend to find out more about the personal lives of the hospital's key players like Connie Beacham and Michael ...  Read the complete review

I have become something of an addict to TV hospital dramas, and while Casualty will always have a special place in my heart, I also quite enjoy watching Holby City. I should start by explaining that both dramas are actually based at the same hospital - Holby City. This is meant to basically be in Bristol, which explains some of the regional accents you come across.... Holby City is the spin off of Casualty and began being screened in 1999. It is meant to show what life is like on other wards in the hospital, away from A&E. The storyline focuses on the main characters on the wards, and also on the lives and problems facing the unfortunate ...  Read the complete review

What is it? Holby City is a medical drama normally shown at 8pm on a Tuesday, broadcast on BBC 1. The drama looks at AAU floor, a cardiology floor, a general admissions floor and has an ITU department. Holby City is a spin off from Casualty, which is also a medical drama, based in the same hospital - but focusing on the Emergency department and paramedics. Casualty is broadcast normally on a saturday night between 8pm and 9pm, however times do vary week to week due to other broadcasts and more important programs. Plots, Storylines? Well, mainly the plot in Casualty is one particular disaster (I am sure this program has had more major crashes, and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Holby City: Holby - it's losing it for me (164 words)

Holby City - aaahhhh, it just doesn't satisfy me like it used to. I never really enjoyed Casualty but this weeknight spin off had me hooked from the start. I felt bereft if I missed and epsiode and for 1 hour a week lost myself in this engaging programme. Lately however, It has lost the spark. Anton Meyer a leading cardiothorasic (or however you spell it) surgeon, departed some while ago and took with him much of the fire, plot and intrigue. It's true that Connie Beauchamp who took his place is magnificent but even she has lacked decent story lines of late. As for the recent Jac, Joseph, Faye, Linden love nonsense - it is all just rubbish really ...  Read the complete review
