Advantages: Great fun quiz show!

Disadvantages: Repetitive, but what's not funny about people being knocked into a pool!

In the realm of wacky and bizarre Japanese quiz shows like the great Takeshi's Castle comes the great, fun quiz show called Hole in the Wall.

The show starts with loud, blazing music with cartoon silhouettes going through walls; from this start it is definitely not going to be mastermind!

The host is Dale Winton who is joined by the two team captains, as Dale says "Everyone's favourite cricketer" Darren Gough and from Strictly come dancing, Anton Du Beke. The captains are each joined by two so called celebrities to make their teams, I said so called celebrities because they have had on their show, Z nobodies such as Vanessa Feltz!

Aim of the game

The aim is simple the contestants have to make a shape with their bodies attempting to get through a hole in a polystyrene wall that comes towards them at speed. If they don't make the shape and get hit by the wall they get knocked into the swimming pool! Dale gives the cry of the phrase, BRING ON THE WALL! before each game.

To make matters worse the contestants are wearing skintight silver lycra suits which isn't that flattering for the larger contestant!

They are awarded points for the attempt they made and if they complete the shape. This goes on for a couple of rounds and then there are team walls where each team has to make it through the holes.


The winning team at the end of the show receives £10,000 for a charity of their choice, so even if you don't like the show it is after for a worthy cause.

The show is very funny and hilarious when the contestants get dumped into the pool, mindless fun at its best. Some people probably won't like the show but you can't beat seeing desperate celebs being dumped in a pool wearing silver lycra!
