Advantages: Great Fun To Watch
Disadvantages: No Politicians Take Part!
This is a British Television physical activity game show shown in the early evening on a Saturday night on BBC1. It is based on the Japanese game show "Brain Wall".
The idea is for contestants to contort their body in such a way that the shape they make fits through an oncoming polystyrene wall that has a specific shape cut out of it. They have very little time to react as they are only given a few short seconds warning of the shape that they are required to make with their bodies. If they succeed the wall will pass through them and they will win points but if they fail to make the correct shape the wall will invariably knock them over and into a swimming pool below.
It is a physical dexterity and skill game but really the idea is for the contestants to fail and end up in the drink in a comical way.
Two teams or three celebrities play against other which are captained by ex England, Yorkshire and Essex cricketer Darren Gough and Strictly Come Dancing star and top professional ballroom dancer Anton Du Beke.
They are all kitted out in figure hugging, waterproof Lycra all in one suits which show every muscle, bump and curve of their bodies.
The other two celebrities on each team consist of a fit athletic looking person and, for want of a better word, a "fatty". The fatty is there deliberately to ensure that there are some thrills and spills and hopefully one or two moments of Fatty Triumphing Over Adversity.
Most of the celebrities are of the type that are on a continual treadmill/merry go round of making appearances on reality programmes, game shows and chat shows.
The show is hosted by the very good Dale Winton and commentary on the action and on subsequent action replays comes from sports commentator Jonathan Pearce.
Each challenge begins with Dale announcing "Bring On The Wall!!"
Some challenges involve one contestant and some are team efforts of 2 or 3 contestants together. My favourite part is a special challenge where a mystery guest comes on and one of the teams is challenged to pick one of their people to join the mystery guest and try to get through the wall.
The mystery guest is usually either a very big person such as a Sumo wrestler or a group of people like seven dwarves together.
This is easily the funniest part of the show.
After various rounds of trying to get through the wall there is a final team challenge for one of the teams after which the team with the most points is the winner and gets to donate £10,000 to a charity of their choice.
I like this programme because it is good clean family fun. Sometimes you secretly hope that a certain celebrity who you do not care for much crashes into the water in a bad way and sometimes you want a celebrity who you like to do well despite their obvious physical disadvantages in terms of their size or age.
There isn't anything I dislike about the programme as it is very easy and enjoyable viewing.
Summary: This Is Real Fun. Well Done BBC.
