Advantages: Deal with real issues, fun storylines too, good time slot, omnibus on Sundays
Disadvantages: Unrealistic dress sense - too glamorous to be real
Hollyoaks is on at 6.30 Monday to Friday for half an hour. It is set in the fictional place called Hollyoaks and centres mainly around students and their families.
All the young people in Hollyoaks are good looking. The girls all dress really glamorous and the way they dress is just not realistic, really short skirts and knee high boots for lounging around the house in, or just popping to the shops! Their make up is always perfect even if they have just woken up, and their hair looks like they have been professionally styled. I think it is done just to keep the male audience interested.
That aside, it is a pretty good show that has seen some really strong dramas over the last year. They deal with big issues such as drugs, crime, insest, gambling, murder and eating disorders. They also run light hearted story lines along side these too, mainly with the funny antics of the students.
I don't watch it religiously, although I do try and catch it as often as I can, but the good thing is that there is an omnibus on Sunday mornings, so a good time to catch up. I usually find that even if I miss one or two episodes, it is easy to get back into fairly quickly.
I do find the theme tune a bit annoying since they vamped it up. I prefered the old one,and the titles sequence is a bit OTT too, but not really an issue.
If you like soaps in general then this has pretty much what you would expect, all the fun and everyday goings on and the hard hitting stuff for the drama.
Summary: Hollyoaks is aimed at young people and deals with big issues
