Home and Away is an Austrailan soap opera which is set in the lovely Summer Bay.

Home and Away first started on the 17th January 1988 in Australia, and hit the UK screens on the 11th Feb 1989 on ITV. It was on ITV for 11 years, and its last episode on ITV was on the June 8th 2000. It returned to British screens on the 16th July 2001 on channel FIVE. Its aired at lunch time and dinner time.

Home and Away will sometimes have breaks during the year, this is to catch up with Austialia because they have breaks there and in the Uk the show is aired everyday, with a new episode each time.

I have been watching Home and Away ever since i was a little girl. I remember coming home from school and watching Home and Away whilst eating my dinner, it was the highlight of my day. I loved the actresses and actors, and i had a big crush on Dieter Brummer, who played Shane Parrish.

I watched it in the days of Pippa, and when she fostered children, one of those being the big character Sally Flectcher.

Unfortunately, when i left school, and went to college i stopped watching Home and Away, i just didn't get the time to sit and watch it anymore, and missing episodes, and trying to catch up made it hard to keep up with the story lines.

However, i started watching again when i saw Mark Furze (aka Ric Dalby) on Soapstar Superstar in January 2007. Soapsta Superstar was a soap star singing show, which had soap stars from Emmerdale, Hollyoaks, and the dishy Mark Furze from Home and Away. Since i saw him, i started to really get into Home and Away, and to this day, i have NEVER missed an episode.

The soap had chaned dramatically from when i used to watch it as a child. Pippa was no longer in the show, and Sally Fletcher had taken over her childhood home with her husband Flynn Saunders. Unfortunately, Flynn wasn't in the show for long when i watched it again, he died of skin cancer, and Alf Steward moved in to help run the Caravan Park.

Kate Ritchie left Home and Away this year, after 20 years of playing Sally Fletcher. This was a very sad day, she's such a great character in Home and Away, and it was sad to see her leave. She wasn't killed off, so there will be a chance she will return.

There have been so many gripping stories on Home and Away, it really is addictive. So many people don't watch Home and Away because the show is no where as big as the English soaps, Easterners, Emmerdale etc. However, i think the show is getting stronger and stroner, and more people should start watching, they will be hooked, just like i am.

The show caters for the younger audience, as well as the older audiance. It still has a few old faces in, Irene Roberts, Alf Stewart, and he brought in a few young fresh faces since the departure of Ric Dalby and Matilda Hunter.

If you have not seen Home and Away before, make sure you turn in. The year of 2008 comes to an end soon, and with two big cliff-hangers to keep the viewers hanging, you will be counting down the days until it returns in the New Year.

Summary: Eastenders, Emmerdale, be careful!!!
