Advantages: some good stories and characters

Disadvantages: some stories dry out

Oh no not another soap addict I hear you say....But I m afraid I am, I cannot go through my week without a good soap story, so I thought I would write a review on one of my favourites.

Home and away is an Australian soap that has been on our screens since 1989 and was initially on itv, but is now aired on channel 5 at 6pm until 6.30pm. You can also get a preview of the next episode if you cannot wait until the next day, this is on channel fiver on sky 176. Not that I do this though;)

The soap was originally based around the Fletcher family who move to summer bay and run the caravan park, they fostered children from all kinds of backgrounds, one being a little girl called Sally who they eventually adopted and she remained in the show for years, even when the rest of the family were not.

The soap now follows different families in summer bay, and centers more around the school, diner, police, beach and caravan park which is now run by Sally's twin brother. There are a lot of younger characters that have been bought into the show and a lot of the older ones have now left, which I feel is better, and gives a better range for the audience watching.

Another original cast member is Alf Stewart. He is a lovable character who has had his ups and downs, illnesses and losses, but has remained in the show, he is known for his lines such as "strewth" and "fair dinkum" which is typical Aussie language.

Home and away are sponsored by Ragu sauces and there are some very annoying adverts prior to the shows start, and again in the break. I cannot stand the adverts as they are just silly and basically regarding a man smashing up food or eating dry pasta!!!

Home and away has been viewed on my tv screen for years, I love the characters and following their stories, and some of the stories are easy to relate to.

They have covered some good subjects over the years such as cancer, ocd, death, murder, misscaraige, and of course a good old doomed wedding!!!

The only down side to this particular soap is that sometimes the story lines seem to dry up a bit, and needs an injection of life into it, and there have been one too many bushfires for me!!

Having said that I still like the soap and characters and will continue to watch it for a good few years more.

Summary: if you like your soaps then you will love this.
