Advantages: Great harmless childrens entertainment

Disadvantages: none

My youngest daughter loves this little character, she has many DVDs and even more books which she can lose herself in for hours, so, I thought I'd see what she was constantly laughing at.

Horrid Henry was created by Francesca Simon, (illustrated by Tony Ross) back in 1994 and has so far graced my childs life with over books, CD/tapes/ DVDs, annuals and even an album featuring 2 discs of Henry songs.
Even some books have been sold as Audio and narrated by Miranda Richardson

In 2004 Horrid Henry aired on the Childrens channel CITV with over 50 cartoon episodes based on some of the books, with titles such as:

Perfect Peters Party.
Sport's day
School fair
And the Secret club
Meets the queen
Perfect Peters revenge
Holiday
Fishing trip
Hiccups
And the big dig

.... And many many more.

The title of each episode giving a clue to what the show will be about.

** SOME CHARACTERS...

Horrid Henry is a scruffily drawn cartoon character who is constantly getting himself into trouble with his parents, usually for picking on his little brother Perfect Peter.
He hates going to any family functions and feels that his family are there to simply make his life as horrible as possible.

Perfect Peter is Henry's cleverer brother who always seems to annoy Henry no matter what he does. Peter very rarely gets into any trouble and is always a pride to his parents.

Mum and Dad are Henry and Peters stressed out parents, (obviously), who are always unimpressed but never shocked at Henrys behaviour.

Mood Margaret is Henry's neighbour and also one of his nemesis's, the pair are so alike that they are always bickering as they try to outdo each other.

Beefy Bert looks like he could be the school bully, with his large build and gruff manner and his ability to answer any question with the words 'I dunno'.

Ms Boudicca Battle-Axe is Henry's school teacher who is always infuriated by Henry's behaviour, much to the happiness of his school mates who find Henry's antic hilarious indeed.

And many other characters throughout the series, books, annual and Audio books.

** BRIEF IDEA...

Horrid Henry, as you can tell by the title, is a little horror who is continuously getting into trouble in one way or another.
His mischievous behaviour is always upsetting for someone, usually his parents and younger brother, on some occasions his relations and sometimes even his teacher and classmates.
Each episode/book/CD-tape brings another horror story for those surrounding the little red headed terror with a short fuse and fiery temper, with each story involving some incident which Henry usually has something to say about.

** IN CONCLUSION...

As I wrote earlier my daughter loves this little chap and is always giggling at his terrible antics, but from the title I was a little unsure about her watching, you know what kids are like for copying some characters they see on the small screen.
After I watched a few episode, (for research purposes only you understand), I was in two minds about how to take it as I was half expecting my daughter to start copying her 'new' role model, so I decided to keep a close eye on some more episodes, even going as far as buying some books too (again, all for research purposes of course).
I soon realised that this little horror, with his bad temper and semi violent mannerism, especially towards his younger brother, Perfect Peter (who is by the way a little annoying with the hairstyle of a mop and faultless way of life), was simply a cartoon character who would have no bad influence on my child at all, and luckily my daughter realised the same.

Henry is a sort of lovably rogue and is one of them characters that you soon realise that you know someone exactly like him somewhere in your life.
You will soon be feeing sorry for his parents and especially his little brother Peter, but if you're like me then you'll soon be feeling more sorry for Henry than for Perfect Peter.

There is just a vast array of entertainment surrounding this brilliantly thought out character, with easy to read books for children (and adults alike), short television cartoons, being about 10 minutes each episode, just enough time to keep the viewer engrossed without stepping over the boredom threshold, some brilliant audio books for those younger children.

The title Horrid Henry does seem a little harsh and may put some people off watching the shows or even reading the books, but he is simply a typical kid who is
In fact, Henry has become so popular that apart form books and DVDs there are games, figures, water guns, practical jokes kits and even a voice changers that can be purchased for your budding little Horror.

So shop around for the entire series of Horrid Henry paraphernalia , with prices such as a 10 pack of books for around twenty quid or each book going for a few quid.
Or even each CITV DVD series for around a tenner, which for over nine hours of child silencing moments is well worth the money in any parents eyes.
It is best to shop around for the Horrid collection as you can sometimes find them on offer in certain shops, for instance I found a few books on sale in Asda for £1.50 each and I have also come across DVDs for a couple of quid.

In all, it is great value for money and once your youngster watches this, or even reads a book, they will soon be hooked.

Summary: There are more horrid kids out there in the real world
