Advantages: funny, serious, controversial, excellent performances, interesting storylines

Disadvantages: It's not exactly action packed so not for everyone

I have been aware of House for quite a while now but despite the plaudits it has received I have never really paid much attention to it, that is until recently. I have now become quite an avid fan of the series and I shall now detail why.

The plot basically revolves a quite brilliant but enigmatic surgeon called Gregory House. He is brilliant in his field with a wide depth of knowledge but he never lets on too much about himself. What we do know about him is an extremely controversial outspoken character, with a dry sense of humour and seemingly a disdain for most people. However this is the side which he chooses people to see, he also does care for his patients, he just doesn't let that on to them.

In addition to to this he has a real pain problem with his leg which he controls by taking poor pain killers than he should. He has a crush on his boss and is does not care who knows, in fact he is so brazen that he has taken prostitutes into the hospital before.

Each episode has a main central plot, typically a patient will be admitted who we get to know in intimate detail, they have been admitted because they are extremely ill and it down to the talents of House and his supporting doctors to solve the problem. The show can be a little sentimental to, and is also tragic at times to but there is always some humour injected at the appropriate times and it adds a clever and entertaining dimension to the show.

While House is the commanding character of the show, the actors that play the doctors are also excellent, delivering passionate, emotional performances which really help you connect to their characters. The patients who make individual episode appearances are always very convincing and draw you deep into their plight and suffering.

This truly is an excellent show and I have nothing to find fault with it. It might be a little slow going for some people and if this type of drama doesn't appeal to you, then you might not enjoy it, but if you enjoy multi faceted dramas with many sub plots bubbling beneath the surface, then you will surely enjoy this.

Summary: Terrrific drama
