Advantages: It's live, It's fun
Disadvantages: It's on when few people can see it
Someone tell Aunty's progammers they are missing a trick. Tucked away in the daytime schedule is this potential gem. Move it to an evening slot and they would knock chunks out of the ratings of half the other programmes in a similar vein. OK, I admit this opinion is based on seeing just one programme, but as the lottery balls never have the right numbers on them, I still have to go out to work during the day. But, finding myself at home this morning and having decided it was really time I had breakfast, I sat down and chanced upon the makeover show with a difference. Between items on garlanding your stairs and collecting sporting memorabilia, there was a nice feature on a three course meal for four for (just) under a tenner and a makeover of a family room into a modern, computer feel space. Lots of reasonably priced ideas, well presented. The handheld cameras, off screen noises and the obvious lack of rehearsal all make this much more captivating than the slick, heavily edited shows like Changing Rooms. But the thing that really made it for me was the chemistry between the presenters and the obvious enjoyment they were getting from creating. Infectious stuff. I'm just off to get somes coloured light bulbs and some silicone sealant to make a light fitting just like one I could buy for fifty times the price and with none of the creative satisfaction.

- 07/02/02 Hiya. Bit more explanation of the show would be good, as I have not heard of it and am still not quite clear. :) |
