Sponsoring a child is a pretty common thing nowadays. Plenty of people give a few pounds a month to help some poor child in some third world village have a better chance - a chance to have education, food, and clean water . But what about all the poor people in the UK ? Its estimated that at least 3.4 million children in the UK live in poverty . Surely this is the result of lazy work shy parents, right ? Wrong ! More than half of these children have at least one parent in paid work . Its a pretty shocking statistic . This series is currently showing on channel 4 at 9pm on Thursdays. It is also available to watch on 4O.D and I imagine it is repeated on the various channels from 4. Each episode introduces us to two new families. One rich and one poor. The idea is to highlight the difference which is actually occuring in our society rather than assuming that poverty is only happening in third world countries. Throughout the episode, the richer family support the poorer family financially and then get to meet each other.
