This review is on series 1 only, there's been 6 series which are all the same format with a few differences and I have only seen series one.
How to Look good naked is a fashion series launced in 2006 directed at women who feel down in the dumps about their bodies, don't we all? With photoshopped models plastered everywhere you look you are bound to have a few insecurities. Gok Wan the presenter of the show wants to show that dressing down and frumpy isn't the answer and it's possible to look good without surgery, he sets himself a challenge to make the ladies look good with their clothes on - and off.
Gok tackles all different shapes and sizes, the thinnest woman I've seen on the show is a size 12 but Gok doesn't want them to lose weight or get tummy tucks, you can be beautiful with a bit of confidence and the right clothes. Gok puts a photo of the womans body up in just their underwear on a billboard in the middle of a city and asks for the publics opinion on their body and shows the feedback to the lady (usually very good feedback, hmm) and thats the first step. He then asks them to strip off infront of him to see what he's working with and identify what kind of clothing will suit them and the ones that will bloat them. He then takes them shopping and usually the girls can see that they can look fabulous with the right style. The last step is to see how far the girls have come and are asked by Gok to do a totally in the buff photo shoot and ask the public 'do I look good naked?'.
The show is quite similar to '10 years younger' but a completely different route to show that people should be real and learn to accept and love themselves for who they are. Also Gok Wan is the complete opposite of Nicky Hambleton-Jones who comes across as a bit dry and it is blatently obvious she couldn't care less about the girls on her show. Gok Wan is absolutely amazing, I never liked him before I seen the show but he really bonds and sympathises with the girls and it shines through completely that he cares, he's such an amazing person which is why he's so good at what he does. Gok Wans refreshing caring nature is probably to do with the fact he once weighed 21 stone and self loathed himself as a teenager. He's such a hero, he also done a series called 'how to look good naked with a difference' which makes disabled people feel better about themselves. I watched one episode and found it really touching, these people who have been feeling low about themselves for so long get an instant boost and it's really nice to watch.
I really like this show, even though it is similar to other shows it's still very entertaining and enjoyable to watch. We've all seen the dowdy mums at the school gates who have completey let go of themselves and do not take pride in their appearance, which might sound shallow but everyone needs to feel good about themselves. Gok literally transforms people like that and makes them feel attractive again and not feel the need to hide behind baggy clothes. I like watching that as love seeing peoples lives lightened up but if you do not see the entertainment in that there's some really good tips and tricks on the show. Gok deals with so many shapes and sizes theres tips on what clothes will suit your figure and things like that, for example I had no idea skinny jeans were making my size 12 figure look bigger.. people can still wear skinny jeans but it's about the kind you wear and I find it really helpful. There's also some good tips for reducing problems such as cellulite and give an illusion of a better body such as contouring with fake tan.
I was skeptical about this program, I mean how can you make less than perfect women look good without surgery? But Gok is absolutely amazingly talented and even the worse looking woman has came out looking gorgeous! The feel good factor of this show makes excellent view, you are not watching women getting chopped up in desperate bid of vanity but people are learning to accept what they've got and I think thats the message of the show. What I do find a little funny though is that at the start the public are being overly generous about the womans body even if it has every lump and bump in sight. Everyone knows you can't please everyone so I find it a little suspicious, Gok have you been having words with them!? Another disadvantage is that it's the same format in every show so it can get a little tiring but channel 4 were so impressed with the show they wanted it to show for an hour instead of 30 minutes so there will be a lot of variety in the other series.
It's an excellent feel good show and I think everyone will fall in love with Gok as soon as they see this, it's no coincidence that he got voted as most adored presenter. He's what makes the show and the compasion and empathy he has for the women is great, he's really talented in what he does and brings out the best in people.
You can still watch all the series and episodes on 40d catch up.
I don't watch this proramme regularly, but I find it is a good programme to have on in the background and can be quite interesting.
How to Look Good Naked first came to TV in 2006 and airs on Channel 4, and the other 4 programmed such as E4 and More4.
The main part of the show revolves around Gok Wan, a fashion stylist, taking a woman who dislikes her body through stages of makeover until she is eventually ready to do a naked catwalk and/or photoshoot.
It is similar to What Not To Wear which was presented by Trinny and Susannah, whereby it encourages a change in fashion style to increase confidence.
The great thing about How To Look Good Naked is that there is no encouragement whatsoever to endorse any kind of cosmetic surgery, unlike those makeover shows such as Extreme Makeover which I think are really quite shocking.
There is also no encouragement for women to lose weight and Gok has dealt with women of all shapes and sizes.
Gok goes through certain stages before eventually reaching the nude stage.
The woman is asked to stand in her underwear and talk about why she dislikes her body. Quite often, it is so difficult to see why they dislike their bodies but I guess everyone has things that they dislike about their bodies which other people can't see!
Gok will go through the women's wardrobes, usually resulting in the clothes being put on public display!
He asks the public what they think of how the women look, and all of these stages gradually build up their confidence.
A naked photoshoot is the penultimate stage, before a naked catwalk where the woman is given a hair and make-up makeover before walking the catwalk in a shopping centre, wearing only underwear. She is then encouraged to drop her dressing gown, showing a flash of bum before running off!
I am surprised at how many women this actually works on and most even get to the bum-flashing stage!
The hour long show is broken up with various other slots such as make-up reviews.
Gok makes a big effort to explain which clothes work for which people and this is very useful to watch and I take the tips on board.
Gok can be slightly irritating sometimes, with catchphrases such as "gorgeous", "girlfriend" and "bangers" but this is just the way he is!
I feel Gok is a good person to fron the show as he used to have issues with his weight and so knows how it feels to dislike his body.
Sometimes the fashion can be a bit over the top but, in general, it is usually very good and anything that builds a woman's confidence can't be bad.
Gok has previously done a makeover on men also, and currently on TV is his series of How To Look Good Naked With A Difference which focuses on men and women with physical differences.
All in all, I think this is a great show which has helped many women and, although slightly irritating, I think Gok should be proud of how he has helped people to be more confident and comfortable with themselves.
How to look good naked is a channel four series presented by Gok Wan. Gok Wan is a male modern day fashionista. He was previously over weight and is now a champion for making women feel good about themselves.
The programmes are in a series, and each episode focuses on a couple of ladies, either self nominated or nominated by concerned friends and relatives that are in need of a confidence boost. The episode starts by determining what they don't like about themselves and why. They then get lots of sources of positive feedback to try and contradict their bad beliefs. Gok then takes them shopping and choses clothes which will flatter the things they do not like about themselves. They are normally high street brands, which is good as it makes it relevant and affordable for the people watching.
Gok is incredibly encouraging and sweet and kind, it is a completely different environment to the Trinny and Susanna programmes. The name is a bit of a trick, the programme is less about being naked and more about how to look good in your clothes and have confidence in yourself. I think that title was chosen to try and shock and draw attention to the programme.
If you are interested in appearance and clothes and possibly have low self esteem then you will really enjoy watching this programme. If oyu have no interest in that's ort of thing then this is definitely not for you! If you want to check out some other bits to do with the show the website http://howtolookgoodnaked.com/ has some associated content.
After watching an episode of this show this mornin and having debates with some of my friends about whether this show is helping women or showing them up I felt like I should tell you my views. Firstly the women featured on the show have all seen it before so that know what to expect from Gok and genuinely want his help. I don't think that it is showing them up in the slightest, they all come out of it feeling a lot better about themselves and overall a lot more confident. Gok opens their minds and their eyes to the world of fashion, where most of them have avoided to delve into until now. He picks out the best clothes for them based on their appearance, body shape, size etc. He gives them advise on what works and what doesn't and tips on how to accesorise and make the most of their shape. Personally I would like Gok to go shopping with me to show me things I wouldn't normally go for, every woman should have a Gok!
How to look good naked is a TV programme about body confidence which is aired on Channel 4. It is presented by Gok Wan who helps people with low self body confidence feel happy about their bodies. Contrary to the title he wants them to feel good about themselves with clothes on as well as out.
In each episode there is a woman (or two) who have really low self-esteem about their bodies. Over several weeks they do activities to help boost their confidence. First they look at themselves to see what they don't like (which is usually everything) then they look at others to see what they do like.
By getting positive feedback from themselves and making sure they wear flattering clothes that suit them Gok helps these women to feel better about themselves. They go through a transormation psychologically which is really uplifting to watch.
In the later series Gok is getting the women to do naked photo shoots and thier own fashion show to proove to themselves and everyone that they have got confidence in them.
Gok is a great host. Some find him annoying however I think he is lively and fun and more importantly he does seem to genuinley care. He himself was overwieght and so has an understanding of what it feels like to dislike your body.
I think watching it every woman out there can relate to what the women on the show are feeling and you will come across someone who is in the same position as you. This makes it seem so personal and can be an emotional roller-caoster. However it always ends on a high and it always leaves me smiling.
Also another aspect I like is Gok gives fashion advie for all shapes and sizes, for example what type of skirt suits pear shaped bodies. Usually the clothes on the show are from high street shops and it tells you where you can go and get them! However if there wasn't anything to your taste or style you could check out http://howtolookgoodnaked.com/ where you can get your own Gok consultation and loads of tips!
The importance to good body confidence has spread and a campaign has been launched through this programme to help teenagers feel better about themselves. This means changing the models in teen magazines (something which I have actually seen in a mag) and even bringing it into schools.
Look out for the programme in 2010 where Gok does a three part special working with three women who have disabilities.
It's a great programme that is not only feel good but has an important message - love yourself and you will be happy. :)
I've caught this show a few times, and while the premise is sound I really don't like the execution.
The idea of the show is showing women how to have confidence in their appearance, and to dress to flatter their shape. First off I think this makes a mockery of the title, which is clearly designed just to get attention. Gaining confidence might be helping these women feel good when naked, but the fact of the matter is they look exactly the same naked at the end of the show as at the start.
The show is presented by Gok Wang, who seems to build a good raport with the women, but I hate how he dresses them! They all look like cheap and nasty carbon cut outs from the New Look window. I have never seen him give one of them a different look other than current high street fashion, the consideration that some of these womens looks and personalities might suit a more classic look, or a shape that maybe isn't hot on the high street right now doesn't enter into it.
Also I think there needs to be more done with men, most men languish either in fashion oblivion, or try to follow new trends slavishly, regardless of body shape (hands up anyone who hasn't seen a barrel shaped 5 ft 6" gent in drainpipe jeans looking appauling).
The tv show has been a huge success, and there are now several books under the 'How to Look Good Naked' banenr as well. While I wholeheartedly approve of anything that makes women feel empowered and more confident, I don't think making them into drones slavishly following the high street and always in need of a new fashion fix is the way to do it. I believe most of the empowerment and morale gained by the women in the show comes from the one to one attention, rather than learning how to dress.
How To Look Good Naked is a series on channel 4 that has been on for a few series now. It is presented by stylist Gok Wan. It is a makeover show that trys to show that women are beautiful no matter what they think of their selves.
Each episode of How To Look Good Naked has one woman who doesn't feel confident in their self. They usually are worried about their bodies and what they wear and don't take much pride in their appearence. They are surprised by Gok who is there to try and make them feel so confident in theirself that they would be happy to go naked. The show is different to other makeover shows in the way that it isn't just about dressing them up nice etc , it is making the women feel better inside their self. I like the idea of the show as it is a bit different and it is quite fun but the journeys that the women take are quite serious.
Gok Wan makes a great host for the series as he is such a positive and motivating person. He has got skills in terms of dressing people nicely such as he does in his other series Goks Fashion Fix. He speaks in a really positive tone to the women and seems to get through to them. He is very good a pointing out all the positive parts of women and usually in quite funny terms such as calling breasts 'bangers'. He is probably what makes the show work so well. It is a great idea on its own but with him it makes it much more exciting and interesting to watch.
The show goes through various parts of the women's journeys. These include making the women feel better about their self. He usually does this by showing a picture of the women in a public place. He then asks members of the public what they think. Thankfully they all say nice things otherwise I am not quite sure this would help!
As I said previously Gok Wan is a stylist so he does obviously try and dress the women in a way that makes them feel confident in their body. He does this using underwear and clothes that accentuate their good parts. He is a good stylist and he seems to know what he is talking about. He also talks about which styles suit different shapes so you know at home the kinds of things that you should be choosing to wear. He doesn't choose designer clothes so you know that what he is looking at you can afford.
At the end of the show the woman who it has been focusing on has to walk down a catwalk in a shopping centre. They usually at the end have to drop their robe and reveal their self naked. This is quite a fun part of the show and is great to see the women feeling really confident.
The show has got a bit of a predictable format as you know what will happen each time. The woman will start of feeling low and unconfident and end feeling great. This doesn't take away from the show though and it is still enjoyable to watch. It isn't a show that I watch every week but if I am in and it is on I will watch it as I know it will be a fun watch. I can imagine that the programme is quite popular with women all ages as everyone can emphasise with these women feeling bad about their bodies.
Overall How To Look Good Naked is a fun makeover programme that is very enjoyable to watch with a great host.
The show is shown on channel 4 and can also be accessed on 4OD.
The concept behind How to Look Good Naked is not a bad idea, showing women how they can be more confident in their bodies and look good with little or no clothes on.
The problem is they decided on choosing a weird looking really annoying arrogant little man in front of the camera gto offer up the advice, the irony of him being a stick thin fashionista seemingly lost of the shows presenters even though he may be a bit of an ugly duckling himself it still seems a strange choice, maybe they should have gonethe whole hog and given the gig to Paris Hilton after all she does have practical experience of being naked on camera.
This show can be found on Channel 4 and it tends to go out before the watershed so you know that despite the title nudity is unlikely to feature much. Each show follows a one hour format with a woman who has low self esteem being initially questioned by the host to see where the problem lies in her mind and then he sort of takes her ona journey, supported by friends and some of his contacts to help her feel more confident without the need for surgery or the like.
I guess that the very fact that he avoids surgery is a good thing unlike these extreme make over shows that demote the female form to being treated like a car ready for a naff white DJ who thinks he is black to pimp up.
In a way it would be sort of nice, maybe in a perverse way, to see at least one show end a bit differently with him failing to make a difference and you do wonder how long the effects might last in some cases, for me this is the type of TV that I have seen and done and have little desire to watch again especially as the presenter is so annoying.
'How to Look Good Naked' is a show presented by Gok Wan, a stylish Gay icon, in which a woman submits her body, clothing and associated self-esteem to Gok's scrutiny. This usually ends up with a huge glam picture of the (almost) naked woman being displayed in a shopping centre, a brand new wardrobe, hairdo and make-up for the woman. Her self-esteem is invariably improved and she often reassesses her life and relationships because of it.
The show starts with the woman 'fessing up about her hatred for her body or part of her body and then Gok's reappraisal of it. There is usually a first giant picture of the woman displayed (as a questionable surprise) in a public place in some uninspiring underwear. Members of the public are invited to give their opinion of the woman's body. Postive comments generally come as a surprise to the woman.
The next thing we usually see is a verbal lashing of the woman's whole wardrobe of clothes - sometimes involving the actual trashing of them too.
Following this, comes Gok encouraging the woman to squeeze into all sorts of huge and torturous underwear - massive pants that hold everthing down and huge long-line bra things which meet the humongous pants in the middle. A slinky dress is often slipped on at this moment and the woman appreciates her smooth lines.
Introduction to new clothes, which suit the woman's body shape, occurs about this time. A radical hairdo and makeover follows. The woman then poses in the nude for a glamour shot which will appear in the shopping centre fashion show which occurs at the end of the programme. In this show, the woman will parade in front of husband/kids/friends and a shopping centre audience of curious people in her fancy clothes and get her kit off in the end (with feather fans etc to shield her modesty).
Gok Wan is always like a best friend to the woman in the programme, calling her, 'Girlfriend' all the time. He is the unthreatening boy who likes to do all the girly stuff that many women want to do. As a teenager, he was overweight himself and suffered bullying (partly because of it). Now slimmed down, he shows himself to have empathy with the women he encounters.
So, what do I think of the programme? I do enjoy watching it but I always have the same niggle. Openly gay Gok seems to help women look good naked, or in their new clothes - but it is always the same kind of 'good'. I am aware that not all women want to look like they are going to the office and then going out afterwards for a drink and possibly dinner. What about women who do not want to look like the high-heeled wearing, wraparound dressed females that the programme processes? Gok himself looks quite interesting - but his look is certainly there to be picked up by all 'gaydars' around; it is not a look that all men would want to aspire to. In short, I think 'How to Look Good Naked' is a bit of a sausage factory.
I would like to see him addressing a larger arena of 'identity' and body shape. I'd like to see him dealing with a different sort of woman - maybe a lesbian who does not want to wear high heels or wraparound dresses, either aesthetically or politically. I'd like to see more diversity!
As a kind of footnote - I saw an episode of this show being filmed in my (empty) city park as I was walking through it (the woman's clothes were attached to a hearse as a comment on their funereal aspect) . I spoke to the producer/director briefly and made a throwaway comment about how I was fed up with some of my clothes. She encouraged me to e mail 'How to Look Good Naked'. I told her that I was actually very happy with myself naked and that I already thought I looked good without clothes!
Moments later, when the shot was finished and everyone started walking our way, my daughter (who also watches the show) tried to say hello to Gok. His security guard stood in the way and Gok ignored her ang walked on by. I think that was a little diva-ish of him. She is young, enjoys his programme and it would have been nice of him to acknowledge her; he's meant to like women.
I must admit that from once recoiling from programmes featuring Gok that I've found myself liking the man more each time I see him & look forward to watching 'How to look good naked' on channel 4 (8pm but sorry can't remember what night it's aired).
Having studied & taught psychology for many years I'm the first to admit that there are no real answers re how & why humans behave & feel as they do - nothing surprises me anymore & I like to feel I'm still learning about our strange species. In this 1 hour programme Gok uses psychological techniques uses techniques which would be frowned upon by the British Psychological Society yet he seems to make women feel a whole lot better about themselves.
Usually there is 1 woman featured (but I did see a programme with mother & daughter) who has low self esteem due to issues with their body shape. We first meet the person & Gok questions them about how they see their bodies, members of the public are also asked for their opinions & there's usually a good deal of incongruence.
Step by step Gok encourages them to take a look at their dysmorphia (albeit very mild) & experiments with their clothing, style, make-up, hair which always results in their higher self esteem. Contents of their wardrobes are examined & criticised, new outfits & accessories are introduced & the programmes inevitably end in a positive way.
I have to say there's NO way ever I'd bare my body on national TV but these ladies do (eventually) & even if the sessions with Gok may not have a permanent effect on each lady I'm sure he has had a great impact on making them see themselves in a totally different light.
As the hour progresses I find myself thinking about what's in MY wardrobe & the impression I might give to those who don't know me - I must admit I have changed my underwear thanks to Gok & have introduced more colour & accessories to my outfits, started wearing the odd belt & given a couple of bags of clothing to my local charity shop!
I'm not obsessed with the way I look but find the programme interesting, sometimes surprising & always entertaining. It's good to see non-celebrity programmes with not a sign of size zero & I'd recommend tuning in to watch Gok at work?
I just last night watched an episode of this programme and thought I would have to review it and say how fantastic I think it is and how fantastic I think Gok Wan is. How To Look Good Naked is another great programme from Channel 4, a real show with a difference.
It has been on our screens now for a few years and can be found at 8pm on a Tuesday night on Channel 4, the show is on for an hour. It is presented by the ever so camp Gok Wan, who is an expert in how to make women feel good about themselves.
The show usually features one woman per episode who has very low self esteem. They aren't just really overweight women or really ugly women, just women who have no self confidence. These women often cannot bear to look at themselves in the mirror and as a result don't really make the best of what they've got.
At the beginning of the show Gok will make them face their demons and look at themselves in the mirror. He will then get people to comment on how they look in their underwear, usually putting their picture on a huge billboard or somewhere very visable. Once they start hearing compliments about their figures the ladies on the show then begin their transformation into confident lady.
Gok will then look through their wardrobe and often throw it all out. He then takes them shopping and shows them how good they can really look. He really is great at making the ladies wear something that suits their shape.
After that the ladies get a bit of a makeover and get their hair and make up done. They then have to go and get their photograph taken naked. This is often hard for some of the women but they all do it.
At the end of the show when Gok Wan has worked his magic the women then have to take part in a catwalk show at a local shopping centre and at the end of the show they strip of naked in front of everyone. On occassions a few have chickened out and left their underwear on.
I think Gok Wan is amazing, he is given a woman with very low self esteem and turns her into someone who strips off in front of hundreds of people. There's no diet or plastic surgery, just some wise words and a bit of fashion advice. Great show.
How to Look Good Naked is presented by the camp it up Gok Wan, or Aunty Gok as he is now known.
The show takes an ordinary woman and aims to build up her confidence in her body image to a final outcome of parading on a catwalk in front of hundreds of people, wearing next to nothing.
Self image is something most women will always question and let's be honest, most of us will always want to change something about ourselves because women perceive themselves in a totally different way to how we are seen by others. I struggle with my height, or lack of it, being only 5ft 1ins tall, but that is just one of many issues i have as a full blooded woman with a world of media perception surrounding me.
On this programme, Gok finds a person with very low self esteem with a good story to tell. He turns into their fairy godfather and proceeds to tell them where they are going wrong and how, by the miracle of a better wardrobe and some semblence of fashion sense, they can turn their image of themselves around with his well honed advice.
Gok runs through their knicker drawers, and on most occassions they put Bridget Jones to shame and are normally a washed out grey colour. By now, most people would ask for filming to stop and run for the nearest Marks & Spencers to get some good figure concealing multi way body suit. Not these body concious women though. They develop the need to want the nation to see them in all their glory, be it good, bad or indifferent.
Gok is such a girlie and he loves every minute of running through the local clothes stores, rifling through the racks of dresses and will squirm as he watches the poor woman try on a multitude of items that she hates and then like magic, always finds the one outfit that was made for her!
With a quick hair-do, which will only be available to her for this once in a lifetime opportunity, and make up that conceals all known causes of acne and ageing, she will parade on a catwalk full of confidence in herself.
But why stop there. Now Gok transports the woman to a studio to have her photographed virtually naked, with only a snake or an old bed sheet wrapped round her for company. All in the best possible taste of course.
I can mock, but at the end of the show, these women seem to be sky high and ooze confidence, regardless of their size, shape or age, which is how all women should have the right to feel. However, i don't think i want any bits of cellulite on show and even if they airbrushed me i would find fault. Women eh. I wouldn't go through all that again if i was offered re-incarnation.
How to Look Good Naked was the launch of Gok Wan's career. You will either love him or hate him in his attempts to make women love their bodies.
The format of the show is to show an insecure women in her underwear talking about pieces of he body which she hates. Some programs you feel sorry for the women, other's you feel like shouting shut up at as they whinge about having having a big bum when it is no bigger than a size 12.
Next Gok takes the women on the high street with people ranging from teenage boys to older women saying bits they like about the women off a massive photograph of the women.
After generally burning a lot of the woman's underwear and putting them in magic pants they go shopping for a nice outfit with Gok giving tips.
After this they get a make over with a good hairdresser and make up artist and are asked to pose naked for a photo shoot. The positions they sit in conceal their modesty.
They are then asked to take part in a catwalk show usually in a shopping centre where they wear their new outfit, then underwear then strip down to being sat naked. Some women look mortified others look like they are enjoying it.
They also feature a group of 'Gok's beauties- naked testers' who test products from mascara to cellulite firming cream. I quite like this feature but be warned you may be see women sat there talking about the product with no top on, a little unnecessary I think.
Overall I think this program is quite fake and boring. Once you've seen one women completely forget what she doesn't like about he body go to loving her self you've seen them all but perhaps I'm cynical this man can completely change their views on themselves that quick.
I also think it is edited well to portray their transformation. For example to start with you see a women in baggy old often un-matching underwear, with no make up on, not smiling go to a women with her hair done, full make up and gorgeous outfit styled with magic hold in pants and push up bras with a confident grin on her face.
I was watching the 100 most annoying tv shows last night and How to look good naked was mentioned, it got me a-thinkin'. I've come to the conclusion that this show is the last thing the "average" British woman needs to watch and heres why...
So the idea of the show is that Gok (bit of a hottie) Wan picks a woman with body issues to try and coax her into loving herself for who she is without mentioning those dirty words "diet and exercise" It's a whole big process which involves him taking her to a big city and putting her semi-naked body on a billboard and letting people comment on it...suspicions tell me that this bit is highly edited I'm quite sure a lot of people would be saying "she has nice nails but she is really fat"
Secondly he takes the woman shopping showing her better clothes to wear as it just so happens that a lot of these women do start out having no clue how to dress for their shape so theres half the battle won in a single shoppping trip, except the only catch is that all the clothes they try on, Gok makes them squeeze into super-restricting underwear such as spanx and then tells them how great they look. Not to mention their "super hooters and massive bangers"
So whats the problem I hear you ask? the problem is that the show is called "How to look good naked" and thats slightly misleading as for most of the show Gok is telling us all we should not embrace the curves but in fact hide them in magical underwear and I personally think this is a very dangerous way to look at the female form, the fact is that being overweight is bad for you yet he ignores that, surely some mention of diet and exercise would be good? the women feel more motivated after the shopping so why not help them all they way? instead of telling them how big and great their boobs are but ignoring their massive beer gut swingling freely underneath????
I just find this show unfair, I feel of all the messages we are told as women are confusing enough so then to say no it's fine to be overweight just as long as you shove yourself into some spanx everytime you leave the house, it's just not on.
My other bug bear is the fact that at the end they don't even get naked , they are most likely to do some parading around in pricey underwear which again can often hide a multitude of sins too!
Overall: This show, in my opinion is worthless, it makes great car crash tv but I wouldn't say take it seriously, I think it is hitting the other extreme to size 0. It's not ok to be size 0 and it's not ok to be overweight either ,both situations are as bad as each other so sort yourself out britain and get your wobbly bums down to the gym!!!
Whilst I was watching this programme last night I got to thinking about what I like and don't like about How to Look Good Naked, and thought wow, that would be a great review.
For those of you who haven't seen this show I will explain the basic format. Gok Wan (quite annoying at times) is the host, he finds a woman who is not happy about her body and dresses in a way that makes her look worse than she actually is (I assume so called friends and family nominate people to the show). He then shows them how great they can look wearing the right clothes and also how great they can look naked without doing any diets or exercise! Generally by the end of the show he has talked them into getting naked for a photo shoot or taking to the catwalk in underwear or completely naked.
There is also a section where 100 women try out a beauty treatment, last night is was 4 different lip plumper's, this is a really good section as they use products from under £10 to £50, so something for every one's budget and it's great to hear what real women think if it.
What I like
I like the fact that he chooses women who are not size 10 skinny models, he looks at real women with curves, who have had kids and just let things get a bit out of control in the wardrobe.
I also like the fact that he never tries to change someone, he always says look how great you are, and even shows pictures to the public of the person in just their underwear to get opinions of what other people think of them.
I think this show gives a lot of us with wobbly bits the confidence to feel great about ourselves and not to hide under baggy jumpers. I know I think I don't look too bad considering I've had two kids and although I don't want to parade around naked in front of everyone I am thinking maybe a bikini wouldn't be so hideous!
What I don't like
Gok Wan can be really irritating. I understand that he is great at fashion and picking out clothes that suit people's body shapes but he is so over the top at times, there is no way I would go shopping with him.
Gok is boob obsessed. Last night he buried his head in between his latest victims bosom, not really what I wanted to watch, and every time he meet up with her he made comments about how much he had missed her boobs! He also had to touch them at every given chance!
Overall I think this is a great idea for a show as it is telling women be proud of who you are the way you are, you don't need diets to look great! You just need to ignore all the comments about boobs and the boob grabbing! I live in hope of them showing an episode where he goes to touch a woman's boobs and get a great big slap in the face!
