I Love 1970 somethingNewest Review: ... commentators aren't much better. What extraordinary memories these C-list celebrities have. For example Jamie Theakston was giving his tuppence worth on episodes on events, music etc in the early 70s. Hang on a minute, I'm pretty sure that Mr Theakston is about my age(29), I have an excellent memory but I don't think I could comment in depth on programmes and music that were around before I even started school. Either he is lying about his age, or has been given the programme to watch earlier so he can make witty comments - I suspect this is true of most of the commentators, given that they manage to show the exact clips that th... more |

When it comes to nostalgic 70s & 80s programmes, I'm as big a fan as the next person. I loved the 1970s series on BBC2 and was delighted when I saw the 80s were being covered, this being a decade I remember more about, having been born in '71. But...I am finding these are becoming less enjoyable. I can't put my finger on it exactly, it might just be that after 12 episodes I'm becoming tired of the format. However I have come up with a couple of other reasons: 1. The commentators. For a start, who the blazes is Stuart Maconie?? He pops up in every episode giving his views (I don't even find him particulary funny) and ... Read the complete review

I was born in the 1980’s; so it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to show you that I didn’t even live through the 1970’s. I did watch the series though on the 1970’s out of curiosity, many people saying that it was one of the most remember able decades in the last century. The programme looked every week at a different 1970’ year; a film made in that year followed the show. It was fascinating to see the clothes people wore, the hairstyles they had and the programmes and films people watched. The series looked at everything from the fanatic fans of the top bands of the time to the famous space hoppers. The parts that I ... Read the complete review

I was born in 1971, so I didn't expect to remember a whole lot from these shows, and as the seventies were the decade that taste forgot, I wasn't expecting to enjoy them. Boy, was I wrong! I remembered so much from every show, even the early ones that I was genuinely startled. I can only explain this, by the fact that the pace of life was slower then, and a lot of TV was repeated, as were adverts. My favourite one of the series, had to be 1979. I was around 8 then, and becoming a person in my own right. I was thrilled that Masaaki Sake (MOnkey!) was interviewed, and I'm fairly sure he was voiced by the same guy who did him in the ... I was born in 1967 so I don't remember too much about the early 70's but this programme has been excellent, if only to see the looks on my kids faces. Each week the programme was dedicated to a year in the 70's and looked at the fashion, music, news and other major events of the year. It's worthwhile watching it just to see the clothes, some of which are fashionable now but for me it's a pure nostalia thing. The food, the music and as I was a child then, the toys. My young daughter has got a pathetic attempt of a space hopper in the cupboard but it's not a patch on the original bright yellow bouncy toy. As for clackers I for one had many a ... Being born in 1960, I was in my teens during the seventies, so this series has been like a breath of fresh air over the last few Saturday nights. Hubby is also 40 now, so the 70s and 80 were our eras and it's just great to see programs like this one on our screens reminding us of our misspent youth. Every week a year is picked (it's up to about 1978 now) and we are taken back to the fashions, the music, the trends and fads of each year. Clackers, chopper bikes, disco, space hoppers, Queen, Kung Fu Fighting... oh those were the days! In between the clips there are 'comics' who come on and comment about the times. These bits are really funny and ... Read the complete review
