In 1965, the espionage genre was in full popularity swing, and had already made its way to television thanks to the previous year's The Man From UNCLE. The success of the mix of espionage and suave humour did not go unnoticed, and as imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, especially if you are hoping for a ratings grab for your own TV network, I Spy was born. To call it a rip off of The Man From UNCLE would be most unfair, as actually, the two shows only similarity are that there are two secret agents as the main stars, that the topic of the show is espionage, and that humour plays a part.
