Advantages: Makes for good viewing

Disadvantages: Title sequence is annoying!, shown late at night

Whilst watching some late night TV a couple of days ago, I stumbled across 'I've Never Seen StarWars', presented by Marcus Brigstocke. The programme could be described as a chat show with a difference - the difference being that each guest is challenged to do or try something they have never done before, and then report back on their experience and mark it out of ten.

Broadcast on BBC4, each half-hour episode is devoted to a different public figure each week. The shows I have seen so far have featured Clive Anderson, John Humphrys, Emily Maitlis, Esther Rantzen, Rory McGrath and Nigel Havers - not an amazing selection I know, but the way in which the programme works usually makes for entertaining viewing. At the moment, four episodes are shown back to back on Tuesdays at 1.20am, but the shows can also be watched on the BBC iPlayer if you're someone who goes to bed early.

Rory McGrath's episode was an amusing one, as it transpired that he had never seen an episode of 'Fawlty Towers' (which he ended up hating), or listened to the iconic Pink Floyd album 'Dark Side of the Moon'. The best show so far however, has to be the one featuring Nigel Havers. Nigel had never seen 'The Simpsons', eaten a Big Mac, or listened to the music of the Smiths - his resultant breakdown of Morrissey's lyrics made for an entertaining spectacle! In the same show, Mr Havers surprised everyone by going and getting himself a tattoo, which was quite unexpected.

Only one episode that i've seen wasn't that good, and that was the one featuring Mastermind host John Humphreys. Humphreys seemed to be trying too hard to appear cool, and the result was especially cringe-worthy, plus there seemed to be a lot of awkward moments.

Marcus Brigstocke makes for a decent host, and comes up with some amusing retortes to the guest's comments, which keeps things ticking over nicely. I'm not sure why the programme is on so late, as it really deserves an evening slot. Anyway, if you find yourself not being able to sleep, and you've got nothing better to do (!?), I've Never Seen StarWars will make for an amusing alternative.

I highly recommend the show as an entertaining half-hour which has a similar feel, both in terms of the intimate setting, and the context, to the popular 'Room 101' which is no longer running - give it a go.

Summary: Entertaining Programme
