Im Alan Partridge !

Newest Review: ... end with 'and on that bombshell....'. The format for it was simple and transferred well to television. The first series focussed upon his chat show and quintessentially exposed the character as a bigot, racist and lacking any intelligence at all...hence why we all loved him! There was ultimately a huge fall from grace when a guest died on the last show and the ratings...declined to an all time low. So we then move into I am Alan Partridge which focussed upon Alan and his ailing career. For a man who has lost everything he appears not to be bitter...but secretly you can tell that he wants everyone else to share in his misery. Alan is now ... more

Premium Review Im Alan Partridge !: Up with the Partridge! (958 words)

Steve Coogan has produced some great comedy characters over the last few years. I am a huge fan of many of them (including the lovely Pualine Calf) but few of them have the popularity that Alan Partridge has, which continues to be a huge success with high ratings for re runs on digital channels. The character of Alan Partridge is almost like an amalgamation of evrything bad about television and the status it provides, with a hint of desperation. Imagine a mad scientist in his (or her) lab creating a monster to dominate our tv screens with taudry television...poor dress sense, no real understanding of topics and current events beyond your own very limited ...  Read the complete review

Alan Partridge is a modern day masterpiece/classic/textbook comedy. The slightly dorky Z-list celbrity from Norfolk, who hosts his own radio show and a TV show that has over 8000 viewers has well and truly bouced back. The show revolves around Alan Partridge, played by Coogan, as he attempts to up his profile, or merely preserve it. Whilst low budget, the show contains a barrel-load of laughs, mainly eminating from the mouth of Partridge. Like in the office (which came after it) and countless other shows, (lead balloon, Extras (I know that makes two Gervais comedies in here, but who cares?) etc...), the protaganist is a bit of a loser. He has hit ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Im Alan Partridge !: Aha! British comedy at its finest (185 words)

First of all, what an absolutely brilliant character to think up, an ageing local radio presenter with a difficulty to tolerate people and stick him in a travel tavern and you've got the makings of a brilliant comedy. Steve Coogan portrays Alan Partridge fantastically well, to the point that you just can't see him in any other show without thinking rather than Coogan it's Alan Partridge. As I said, the show is based around a radio presenter in Norwich who is going through a divorce and has trouble communicating with his kids. The travel taverns handy man, Michael, is a fast talking geordie who Alan struggles to understand, highly amusing ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Coogan's finest hour (208 words)

I'm Alan Partridge is the show that put Steve Coogan on another planet in terms of his fame and the doors opened to him. Steve Coogan plays Alan Partridge who is a radio presenter who is destined to be friendless and alone in the world thanks to his unique ways and cringe worthy comments. Alan is an up and coming star in his own mind whilst to the industry he is no longer worth keeping onto as we see in series one where Alan is dropped by the BBC before he attacks the head of BBC programming with a giant cheese before heading back to his hotel that he is resident in. Alan is assisted by Lynn who is an assitant who puts up with being treated badly and never given a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Im Alan Partridge !: I'm Not Alan Partridge, thankfully (751 words)

I'm Alan Partridge - well, I'm glad I'm not, but what a character. In real life, he's the sort of chap you would either love or hate; I'm sure his mother must love him. Played to perfection by Steve Coogan, Alan Partridge is squirmingly embarrassing even when he's attempting to be normal. He is the master at digging himself deeper and deeper into the mire to try and get himself out of trouble. Partridge lives in Norfolk, (I've lived there too, briefly, and can just imagine him being one of the local features) and works for Radio Norwich. He has his own show in the 'graveyard' slot late in the evening when not many people will be listening. It is a ...  Read the complete review
