Poor old Alan Partridge,we've witnessed his rise to fame, from radio,to sports correspondant on "The Day Today" and to the heady heights of his own chat show "Knowing me,Knowing you" and sadly his fall from grace which is chronicalled in this excellent show.

Alan is a spoof presenter expertly played by Steve Coogan. He is an amalgam of all the sexist and boring reporters and journalists you've ever seen. He's insensitive,a tory, patronising and ignorant.

His chat show ended when he shot someone dead with an antique flintlock, and a reprieve was blown when he ended his Christmas special by chinning his boss with a stuffed duck.

As this show opens we find Alan at a low ebb.His wife has thrown him out and he's living at a travel tavern. In the first episode the door is finally closed on a new series and Alan has to scrape a living as a Z-list celebrity.

A cringey meeting with his new boss seals his fate as his ideas for new shows are all rejected - "Monkey Tennis?"!.After insulting his former boss and various BBC employees - "I've got cheese!" he has to consider a future of corporate videos and no Buck Rogers toilet.

His graveyard shift on Radio Norwich is supplemented by appearing in Sales videos for barge holidays and judging the leeks at the village fete "looks like a witches hair".The show has a docusoap feel as we follow Alan and his loyal assistant through his darkest of days.Light relief is injected by the ridiculous situations which include a meeting with a lunatic fan and a sexy encounter with some chocolate mousse.

The show is very funny as the increasingly desparate Alan hits rock bottom when he hurts his hand and the in house porn film is shut off.The supporting cast are great and include Sally Phillips off 'Smack the pony' and a former SAS man who works as a porter and gives Alan lethal force tips.

Abley assisted by a fine
cast and guest stars like Chris Morriss and the writers of Father Ted who appear as Irish TV executives.

The show is a triumph and a vindication of the decision to move away from the chat show format. As we left Alan at the end of show six things were looking up and the second series may yey not be a forlorn hope.Good news for Alan at last and for all us eagar viewers too.

Word is that Steve Coogan is planning a new Partridge show that finds him as a local TV anchor man. With Partridge's previous outings all being classics,I for one can hardly wait.

You are the only other person, apart from me, who I know to actually like this show! I think the humour is lost on all these lesser mortals :)
