Jailbreak in generalNewest Review: ... so they stand to win large sums of money. The catch is that the money earned is on a sliding scale, so the first person(s) to escape will get more than those who get out later. Seems a reasonable concept for a show, but Channel 5 spoiled it by making it too easy for the convicts to escape. After being told initially that the prison was a replica of Brixton, it was gradually discovered that ... more |

After Big Brother, the television networks were all desperate to have the next fly-on-the-wall, warts and all style documentary. Jailbreak was a low budget attempt to try a slightly different method. Take 10 normal(!) people and lock them away in a specially-created jail for 3 weeks. The aim (obviously!) is for them to escape, in doing so they stand to win large sums of money. The catch is that the money earned is on a sliding scale, so the first person(s) to escape will get more than those who get out later. I laugh at channel 5 thinking that they could make a series as popular and as famous as big brother !!! They tried to copy it and i thought "might as well watch this" and EVERY night i managed to forget to watch it, can't be that famous or gripping can it now ?? !! Even the website is an exact copy off the big brother one, can they be any more greedy ?? They sure can, the text boxes which come up on screen are exactly the same style with "day no." and "time underneath. You will have to see for yourself to know what i mean probably. ... This is another fairly original concept by Channel 5, but it takes a serious matter and makes it light-hearted, which it obviously isn't for those involved in the real world. It isn't pulled off with the same style as Big Brother was. Inside the jail prisoners are allowed to read emails from people watching on the TV, to tell them where things are so that they can escape. How stupid is that? Craig Charles cannot even save this from being pretty rubbish. Bit like all Channel 5 productions really. ... Read the complete review

Jailbreak is much like Channel 4's Big Brother. They have put 10 people (5 boys, 5 girls) in a specially built Jail and the aim of the game is to escape. They win either the full £100,000 prize if they manage to escape on their own, and if they escape with others, they win a share of the prize. The audience (show watchers) can also e-mail the contestants to give them clues on how to get out and help them break out of the jail, if that person who e-mailed them a suggestion helps the inmate to break out, they get £10,000 themselves. They have put all different types of people into the jail, but they have put in a blond glamour model, blond & big breasted for ... Read the complete review

Someone please explain this to me. I have been folowing the show through e-mail not actually watching it and I have recieved an e-mail tonight telling me that three of the in-mates have escaped. Now I thought the idea of the show was to escape and scoop the £250,000 and that was the end of it, but the e-mail says more tomorrow. Excuse me if I am being stupid but how can it carry on? Surely there is no more prize money? If there is the whole thing has been a complete farce or are channel 5 just trying to keep a fairly popular show running for the ratings? ...
